I want to try without a keyboard and a USB one connected.
-
Like...with the built-in keyboard removed or disconnected?
Why? -
I don't have any first hand experience with trying this on a DV7, but I just booted up another HP laptop a couple days ago without the keyboard attached (any keboard actually), and it booted fine.
Why not just try it? It won't hurt anything. -
Disconnected. It's dysfunctional and produces random keystrokes, to not say it even stops the boot process sometimes because of those random keystrokes.
-
Oh it will, it currently produces some random keystrokes that may make it hard to boot to BIOS and beyond. I don't want to shut it down before being sure about it.
-
I can't imagine that it would prevent POST.
-
hockeymass, start finding sources for your uninformed remarks before you burn more people's PCs.
-
What the hell? Are you serious? I literally have no idea what you're talking about. I have never once advised someone to do something that could cause damage to their PC. Stop being an idiot.
-
I'm really disappointed that you didn't come back yet.
You've upset me greatly. -
"hockeymass" I like that new bit in your signature...
I apparently I also get "leladax" all bent out of shape... - http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ard-without-voiding-warranty.html#post7923144 -
lmao!! made my day...
-
indeed, methinks leladax is wound a little too tight. I'm actually wondering if he/she managed to set fire to his/her computer by booting with the KB disconnected. That would be impressive.
-
It was sarcastic. Sorry if it sounded literal.
I meant that I'm not interested at all in speculation. I have a serious issue and I'm well aware such "silly" conditions such as a broken keyboard can create serious issues. I am not interested at all in speculation of the kind "I can't imagine this would be the case".
Yes, I can imagine. I'm only interested in firm positions. -
So you really think someone that reads this forum has tried to boot a dv7 (not just any laptop, a dv7 SPECIFICALLY) with the keyboard disconnected?
Probably not.
Carefully disconnecting the keyboard and powering on the computer will cause zero damage to the computer. -
Someone said they did.
-
FYI... the keyboard is PS/2...
We all know that disconnecting PS/2 devices is hazardous...
PS/2 connector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -
You might as well set off a nuclear explosion... that PS/2 port literally is holding the fabric of the universe together.
Seriously, it will either boot or it won't. It won't brick the computer either way. I would be more worried about leaving it plugged in if it is sending random keys because if there is a short in the keyboard I wouln't want that blowing out my motherboard. -
I can't see how it would throw a post error. I also checked that other thread as well. If someone called in saying their three year old pulled up a bunch of keys of the keyboard and wanted to buy a new keyboard to replaced the damaged one, A typical support agent would just sell him a new keyboard and not think twice.
-
There is no way the lack of a keyboard could damage something or prevent POST. The worst that can happen is that upon boot, you will get the rather funny "No keyboard detected. Press F1 to continue" message, but I think that only happens with older motherboards.
Does anyone know if a dv7 boots without a keyboard connected?
