The HDX18 is now being offered with a 160gb SSD + a 500gb HDD 5400 option. HP won't disclose which SSDs are being installed. If anyone has one of these units, please share which make and model that you have.
Also, an HP rep told me that the OS is being installed on the HDD (which is a silly thing to do) rather than the SSD at the factory.

Should be Intel, just format both when you get it and fresh install

Thanks!
Can you point me to a tutorial? I've read a lot, but some of it is going over my head. Some say install from the Vista disk provided by HP, some say make a ghost image (but they don't explain what that is or how to do it), others add to be sure to copy all your drivers over (without saying where to find them), etc. -
I would search NBR for VLite guide for a clean and light Vista install. Then go to HP Support & Drivers and find any drivers specific to your notebook and save to a flash drive. I don't really use any CDs given by them since later versions can be found online.

HP has an exclusive partnership with Intel to use their SSDs, so all SSDs in the current HP lineup are Intel models.

Where is your proof that hp has intel SSD?
-
If you're familiar with HP's supply channel, you'll know that HP uses Intel SSDs for its PC products. A quick Google search will tell you all the HP releases over the past year are announced with Intel SSDs (the only mainstream SSD range that has 160GB capacity anyway). I am extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of HP's PC products and there should be no real reason to doubt me if you are familiar with the information I've provided on this forum, especially on HP's products all this while.
Disclaimer: I do not work for HP in any capacity. I'm a very keen analyst of HP's PC business strategy. -
Thank you! I found this on newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812161002&Tpk=EZ GIG II
I suppose that I won't need the adapter since both drives are installed in the laptop, but it sounds like the software does a great job of making a ghost image. Apparently, the software makes an image of everything on the HDD and copies it to the SSD; then I make the SSD the boot drive in the BIOS; then I can format the HDD as a data drive. I hope that it's as easy as it sounds.
I can use the adapter to upgrade my desktop's hard drive. -
does anyone have the part number from HP for the 160GB drive?
Does anyone know which 160gb SSD that HP is installing?
