I'm thinking about calling HP for an exchange. I love the laptop... everything about it... except this whine is driving me crazy.

This whine is found in most processors, some people can hear it and others cannot. Not much you can do about it.

If I press my ear directly on the left side of my touchpad, I can hear a very faint whine, but otherwise I don't notice anything

The whine drives me nuts too..seems to be vary in 'audibility'. I think in 'power saver' mode its quieter, and of course you have all those 'fixes' all over the net. But I was trying to watch a movie quitly, and you can hear the cpu 'buzz' / 'whine' over the movie, kinda a pain in the a**, still debating whether or not I should try to get a replacement or return it or what.

Im starting to get more worried about the Hard Drive noise, especially when you first boot, its noisy almost non stop, after a while of being booted though its quiet but makes noises periodically, like every 10 seconds or so.

And to top it all off, I just tried to play an old audio CD and it didnt recognize it, but in another dell laptop I have here it recognized it right away. Sooo now im migrating to cd drive worry. What a trip..

    P.S.

When the whine is taking a nap, and the HD is relaxing, this laptop is VERY quiet, the dell Iv also have here (1525) has a REALLY loud fan compared to this one, although to be fair ive been keeping this HP on power saver to limit resources, it also keeps the temps around 40 degrees (C). If I need the Ghz I switch to normal power options.

Soo im trying REALLY hard to like this laptop and just keep it, but I keep nagging myself >(. Very afraid something is in fact defective, and I wont find out till AFTER my return period.

So what are you gonna do caveman? First I was leaning towards keeping it but now im not so sure again, when I watch a video the processor buzzes the WHOLE time, and if I mute the video the buzzing gets annoying. Plus the HD is noisy which people still didnt tell me if its normal or not >(. (In a relatively quiet room)

Well I tried watching a divx avi file in WMP at full screen, and the CPU Buzz or whine or whatever the heck it is, is just too loud! Is this or is this not the same cpu whine people complain out, this happens when , and only when, the cpu is being used, NOT if its idle as other 'whiners' have said.

I still dont know if I should keep or return please people read the posts and share opinions. I WANT to love this laptop, but what the heck is this buzzing garbage, and on top of that the HD is noisy after startup but then relaxes...

    Opinions PLEASE!
