    I just got a DV7-1285dx assuming that it had a SPDIF as I read on eBay (yes, I know)... after reading through some of the threads on here, it seems that some HPs have them and some don't. So does one of my headphone outputs double as a SPDIF? How about a HDX16t.... or anything comparable. It's a make or break kind of thing with this laptop...

    Unfortunately, HP did not include an SPDIF connection on the DV7... you'll need the HP QuickDock to get an optical SPDIF connector... I think the HDMI connection has multichannel output... couldn't test it because my TV only offers 2-channel output...
