Ok, so I know this will sound strange, but Im going nuts with the shiny glossy area where your hands rest on the DV5T but Im sure the same happens with any other glossy finish HP laptops.
This laptop runs a bit warm with my configuration. Add to that my hands (at least the parts that rest on the laptop) get a bit sweaty/sticky.
No, it's not because of anything im browsing! My husbands Dell has this textured finish so I never even THOUGHT this could be an issue...
...but I find that my hands keep sticking to the laptop as im trying to move them around! I can deal with the heat but the wierd sticky feeling, especially since it can get warm out here...is making me go bananas! I tend to use this outside so as I mentioned, it's already a bit warm...and even if I wash my hands, it is fine for a little while and eventually the moisture or whatever builds up.
Ive tried washing my hands super clean but its just a matter of time and it keeps happening.
I'm tempted to get some thin neoprene mouse mat and cut squares to rest on both sides of the pointer device but im sure they will keep moving.
Does anyone else have this problem and found a solution? Does a company make a sort of skin thing just for the area where your hands rest?
Any solutions would be much appreciated! That laptop looks nice and shiny but man what I'd give for a simple textured surface that wouldnt cause my hands to stick to them instead of gliding.

I've never seen anything quite like what you're describing, but I do have a possible solution for you.
If you're willing to plunk down the money for it -- $20 to $25 plus shipping, or one of the cheaper ones that float around on eBay -- you could buy a laptop skin designed to cover the lid and carefully measure and cut it to fit the handrest area of your laptop. I haven't tried such an idea myself, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.
Just an idea to consider.
EDIT: If the smoothness of it is what causes such a problem, you might want to go for one of the textured skins some sites offer, such as faux-leather skins and whatnot.
Does something like this exist (keyboard area skin thingy)
