I belive so - the P-M in the V2000 should support dual channel RAM. However, its Turion brother, the V2000Z cannot support dual channel.

No. The Turions do not support dual channel memory. AMD will include dual channel memory support when they release a newer socket next year.

    Ah that really blows :/

Oh well... for what I'm doing I guess it doesnt really matter a whole lot then. The good part at least is that I can just buy a single gig stick and not care if slot #2 is filled or not.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

Dual channel is not that big of an advantage. They have their advantages but for the average user it does not give any significant improvements.

If you mix RAM of different speeds, they will run at the same speed as the slower one, so in your case if you mix a 400MHz RAM with a 333MHz RAM. They will run at 333MHz.

lets say i remove all the ddr333 ram and put in a stick of ddr40. will the comp run at 333 or 400?

also will the compaq support it or spit it out?

some systems are more touchy than others. so i would like to know before ordering :p

    thanks!

It will run in DDR400 mode (200mhz) if all memory modules are DDR400.

However, if you mix the DDR333 (pc-2700) and DDR400, it will only run in DDR333.

If you have the latest BIOS it should run at 400MHz. RAM can be sometimes be tricky but if you buy from a reputable manufacturer, there should'nt be any major problems.

Current BIOS is F.13. From Bios F.11 onwards it is supporting DDR400. Most likely you have F.11 which is fine. F13 makes fan control much better and also some bug fixes to Linux ACPI interface.

Actually, even without Dual-Channel memory turion has verygood memory speed and management because of on-board memory controller. If you see the memory bench marks in V2000z review in reviews section you will understand. With DDR400 it approachs near Dual-Channel performance of P-M.

Anyways, here is the link for latest information about latest bios.

If you search this forum thread( including review section) you will find almost all information about Myths, Undervolting V2000z to Performance bench marks etc.
You just need to search, that's all.

Socket m2 will give dual channel and ddr2 support, but remember your turion has a memory controller integrated into it... that means that ddr333 will run great because of the added system bus. DDR2 will be the icing on the cake when socket m2 comes out, but right now ddr on a turion vs ddr2 on a p-m with no memory controller on the die is really still an advantage to the turion.
