I've tried out a couple of laptops and i really dig the form factor, weight, and power of the HP Envy 17. The fact that everybody complains about the heat produced by this laptop concerns me. Thing is all the info I can find is on the version with an i7 processor. What I was wondering is if I get one with an i5 processor will there be less of a heat problem?

The heat is due to the chassis material. While it is true the i5 consumes less power since it runs slightly slower, the heat felt is more to do with the conduction of the heat than the actual heat produced.

The i5 will run cooler than the i7.
But I would still recommend getting a laptop cooler to keep you sane. -
Change out the thermal paste with the good stuff like Arctic Silver 5.

by how much does the Arctic silver improve your heat ?
Does the HP Envy 17 with an i5 processor produce less heat than one with an i7?
