like the one for the dv9700t notebook line, do they work in media center or they only work using whatever propietary program HP includes with their notebooks/tv tuners?

cool. not sure what the quickplay button is but it doesnt sound important within media center as my media center remote for my vista desktop doesnt have one. as long as I can play, fast forward and browse within media center I am good. man i cant wait to get this laptop. Thanks

Quickplay is HP's version of MC. It's more or less unnecessary software making it redundant since Vista comes with MC. The quickplay button (labeled with a "Q") simply loads up quickplay. While the remote also has a MC button that loads up MC.

You can also use the IR remote with Winamp and Windows Media player. I believe iTunes aswell but with a tweak.
