Pretty much the title. Sometimes I put my laptop on its side in bed. I've noticed that when I do this the keyboard and the touchpad stop functioning. Is this an intended function or should I return the laptop?

To clarify, this is when the spectre is in laptop mode.

Yes. mine does the same. Seems to be the rotational sensor turning off the keyboard/trackpad.

I have the "old" x360 and this does the same thing. It's annoying. The keyboard and touchpad should have been programmed to only turn off when the screen is opened past 180 degrees, and have nothing to do with the rotation. Seems like it should be an easy firmware update, but as an existing problem (that I've complained to HP support about before), I doubt it'll be fixed with any urgency.

I've tried endlessly to find a solution but I don't think there is one. Does anyone know how to disable the G sensor as a workaround? I tried disabling various components in Device Manager and no luck. I did manage to disable the auto rotate but the keyboard/mouse still disables (the trick to do it in landscape mode is to flip the screen into tent mode, of which then the auto rotate button un-greys).

I have the same laptop and the same annoyance. I work around it now by disabling the entire "orientation and hinges" sensor array. When in normal laptop orientation and mode, I go to Device Manager and disable under System devices the "Intel(R) Integrated Sensor Solution". Now it cannot detect orientation or hinge angle anymore, so keyboard and touchpad are also never disabled. When I want normal behavior back, I enable the device again.

Caveat: I have no idea what other sensors might be disabled by this action.

Thanks for the rotation lock "grey out" info, that was driving me nuts as well.
