Hi,
I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate x64 on my dv5t --- it came with Vista Premium x64, but I have a legit retail copy of Ultimate. I installed Ultimate on the Windows partition, leaving the recovery partition in tact.
After the clean install, I, as a test, rebooted and pressed F11 to see if the recovery module would come up. It wouldn't. It would just boot normally into my Windows Ultimate install.
If I put my recovery disk #1 in, and rebooted, then the recovery module would boot and I could choose to recover from the hard disk or the recovery DVDs.
Does anyone else have an F11 problem after clean install?
Thanks.

It does not work since the master boot record has been reset.

I did a clean install to mine and F11 didn't come up either. I'm sure it can be set, but I was lazy to try further.

I was wondering what if you backup MBR before the clean install, and then restore the MBR after clean install, would it bring the F11 option back??

Is there a way to set the MBR to make it work? I have already done the clean install. Thanks.

I am sure there must be. If someone could figure out how to edit the MBR and what to add to it, it can be made to work. HDHacker is a tool to backup and restore the MBR. If someone could interpret the pre-clean install backed-up MBR and add the same entry to MBR after clean install, F11 could be made to work again. I am not an expert on this, so I would wait for someone to correct me, but I dont see a reason for it not to work. I havent yet got time to do the clean install, so until i dont do it, I can provide a pre-clean install MBR backup if someone is willing to do the work.
Does your F11 for recovery work after Clean Install?
