I have a DV4000, with BrightView. I think the colors and all are decent, but it seems that the text and graphics can sometimes look grainy or fuzzy, in any application.
Does anyone else feel the same thing? I'm wondering if this is reason enough to upgrade to a better brand.
Thank you.

Are you in native res ?
Check for the latest gpu drivers with hp .
Any laptop that work properly in native res the screen should be very crisp , its not about brand though some have better screens then others . -
I've opened up display settings, changed brightness and contrast
settings to make display look better.
In inte's GMA, it's under Color. Brightness to -37, contrast to 53.
Let me know what display you have and I'll post the exact steps.

Just to make sure the fuzziness is not caused by font smoothing, you might want to try going to the display properties->appearance tab->effects button, and disable the screen font edge smoothing.

In other words, you guys all find the HP displays to be very clear?
I mean, for me it looks bright/glossy, but I just thought the images/text etc at a local showroom looked a bit blurry esp when compared with, say, the Sony XBrite. -
It certainly doesn't look fuzzy to me..
HP Compaq v4000T
Playiing DVDs on my widescreen BrightView and they look incredibly sharp..
I believe the Sony displays have a higher powered backlight on the displays. I remember hearing that when I was thinking about buying a Sony..
Of course, I refused to buy Sony products after they started installing rootkits on people's computers without telling them.. So I went with HP instead of Sony.

But of course, I'm the kind of person to hold a grudge against a company for a rather long time.. It'll be years before I buy anything from Sony. Even if they may have a technologically better product (I'm not saying they do.. Just that even if they had one, I'd probably not buy it over another because of my grudge) ..
Yes, I got burned by the Sony "rootkit" and I don't even have a Sony computer.. I just bought a $15 music CD made by Sony.. And it totally messed up my old desktop. -
HP nc6120 SXGA+ in native 1400x1050.
The entire display sparkles. I don't know how else to describe it. It's as though it has an imperfect coating on it that causes tiny prismatic effects, changing colors just slightly.
The result is a grainy display, as one taken by fast film.
It's not caused font smoothing or graphics drivers; this is a problem with the screen itself or a coating thereon.
Does your HP display look fuzzy at all?
