Hey guys. Long time lurker, first time poster, and I need some help.

So here's the deal. I'm looking to get an HP laptop, but I need help on something. Last week, I bought an Inspiron 13 which is now en-route to my house. It was a pretty good deal, and I love the form factor.

But yesterday, a friend threw me this awesome deal on a HP dv5-1135ca, that, for lack of a better wording, is just too good to pass up. It's a 15", but much better specs for about the same price, and HDMI, eSATA, remote control, better speakers.....

I checked out the dv4, dv6, and dv7's at Best Buy, and was pretty satisfied with the look and build quality, they look great. So I'm ready to hit the trigger. The machine looks great.

The only thing is this: my girlfriend has a dv2000/dv2700, and I *hate* it. It has this fan issue that sounds like the thing has asthma.

It's like there's no modulation in the temperature chip, and no leeway buffer. Fan turns on, hits full peak, turns off again. And for what I assume is the length of time it takes for heat to build again -- wait five seconds.

    Rinse, repeat.

You can't hear it when the TV is on -- but in a quiet room, it's annoying as :

While I really, really want to pull the trigger on the HP right now, there's no way I could stand this.

Can you guys weigh in? Digging around here, fan noise and heat issues seem to be a big topic of discussion around here, so that compounds my concerns. Anyone know how the dv5 is on this?

Base specs we're looking at, for reference and comparison, if anyone has anything close:

    Core Duo 2 T5800 @ 2.0gHz 2mb 800fsb
    4gb ram
    Intel 4500MHD

I just got my dv7t and it is silent. It is closed and hooked into my monitor. I'm going to install a game and see what it does.
