I've tried out four different dv6500se's and they all whine, especially loud on battery mode. Do all of you guys experience this as well? If you can't hear anything, put your ear close to the touchpad. I can hear it at least four feet away very clearly. But I might have sensitive hearing compared to others.

Mine doesnt whine at all. PC in sig.
-
My laptop does not whine. I whine about it.
-
No.
(filler) -
mine does...dv2550se. only sometimes though...
-
ive gone through 4 DV pavilions with no whine...
-
its 2008 and your still looking at 6500's. the newer 6700 models should not have the CPU whine.
-
No whining here. Neither the Laptop nor me!
-
Ok, I am not making this up. I purchased the 6500se because of its exterior aesthetics. The copper lid of the dv6700 does not appeal to me. But the CTO 6500se still has the latest specs and should be comparable to the dv6700. The whine in all four notebooks I've tried appears to be coming from the motherboard directly underneath the trackpad. Anyone here own a 6500 of any shape or form? The whine is always there, but louder when running off the battery. It's actually a combination of sizzling and whining that is ever changing in frequency and duration.
-
After opening them up, the whine is definitely coming from in or around the South Bridge.
-
its your processors C4 state. you can get try get rid of it in many ways
-
I check marked to disable the C4 state in RM Clock and it didn't help. The whine is still there when plugged in, so not sure that is the cause. Besides, does your not whine regardless? Why should mine?
-
theres also a setting in the BIOS..
send it back if it annoys you
I think your sig is incorrect -
So no one who has bought a laptop recently has this problem?
-
that issue existed about a year ago, they fixed it since
-
If I have four brand new dv6700t special editions with the noise, then I don't think it's fixed. Disabling C4 in BIOS does not help either.
This guy's video demonstates the noise I'm talking about:
Watch a few seconds in to start hearing it.

yeah dude thats the noise i get sometimes with my laptop. mine happens on an inconsistent basis though. i cant remember if i hear when on AC power or battery since i use them both alot...ill look when i hear it again.
-
Anyone else hear what's in the video? Put your ear over the trackpad. Maybe some are just louder than others?
-
How can I have four notebooks that whine and no one on this forum reports similar experiences?
-
there were many reports about the whine... about a year ago..
-
Has it always whined? My started whining and got louder after a few days, and then turned into more of a higher pitched, annoying buzzing sound. I also noticed it seemed to be running hot. Turned out the CPU fan was going bad and had to be replaced.
-
I said twice already in this thread, that mine whines...sometimes -
My dv2310us whines....piece of crap...lol
-
If you have the latest BIOS, you can disable c4 sleep state. That fixed it for me.
-
3 month old thread i'm going to resurrect...
when I got a quick dock and moved all my usb devices to it instead of my dv5z... I started to get the whine. All I know is when I remove the quick dock and hook up my usb keyboard and mouse directly to my notebook, the whine is gone. -
I have DV7-1132NR HP LAPTOP 17 --Dv7-1132 AMD Turion X2 RM-70Dual-Core Mobile , ATI Radeon, ram 4GB, it has noise and whining sound problem came from top left corner where is the cpu and buzzing sound from the AC adaptor , after 2 months with many trials with hp customer service online and through phone calls,CS support who would not able to do any thing, I sent it back to HP customer services . but I am very disappointed after wasting my time, they did not fix the problem , I ve got my laptop returned back without solving the whining problem
I was advised from many feed back from HP forum to return it back again , and they suggest to ask HP to change the cheep mother board, Is there anyone have same problem. Any suggestions will be appreciated -
My DV9700 whines sometimes when i'm gaming, it's the coils on the graphics card. But it's not nearly as loud as that video shows, it's barely audible.
-
I have the whine/high pitched sound with my brand new HDX18t. An old Dell 8600 also have the problem, but my previous Dell Inspiron 9200 did not have this issue.
