    Hi!

My HP Elitebook 840 G2 (CPU i5-5300U) now has 32GB of RAM by two modules of 16GB, even though HP states the maximum would be only 16GB.
And my friend just bought a HP Pavilion 17-g120ng (CPU Intel i7-6500U) and also upgraded to 32GB. Again per HP official statement, the maximum normally is just 16GB on that machine.

The memory we used was a PACCOM 16GB DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM module. You can find them on Amazon.
The PACCOM modules are tested for compatibility to practically any brand laptop that utilize an Intel CPU of 5th or 6th generation (as long as there are sockets for DDR3L SO-DIMMs in the system).

I also tried if it would work on my old HP Envy, but the CPU is too old, it won't boot.
The CPU-generation is the key! Intel released the 5th and 6th generation CPUs in 2015 and only these newest CPUs allow the memory to be upgraded with 16GB per module.

So 32GB should be doable on a Pavilion Gaming (Skylake)?
