I was wondering if there are any driver issues with downgrading to XP from Vista on the dv2000t?

Is just getting the xp drivers from hp adn then installing normally sufficient?

To get quickplay running, do I just need to install that partition?

    Thank you.

I have the dv2000 with xp and it's running it fine. I recommend a fresh install of XP though.

    Good luck

There shouldn't be any driver issues when you are downgrading

Thanks. I was just concerned because it seems in other forums ( liek fujitsu) the notebook has vista with vista drivers, and when downgrading, a lot of their hardware didn't work correctly and fujitsu didn't have those drivers on the website.

There will definately be no issues in downgrading to XP. I am running windows xp just fine. Infact, the dv2000 series were designed for windows xp and not vista.

The windows xp drivers are everywhere and easy to find.

To get Quickplay working you will need to download Quickplay version 2.1(or2.3). HP ships QP version 3 which wont work in XP without modifying it(search the forum for more info). Plus QP 3 does not include the directplay half of Quickplay. So, if you want to get full QP fnctionality then you will have to get two(for windows and the directplay verson) QP 2.1 or 2.3 installation files. Also, do remember to downgrade the BIOS from the latest version to the previous one since the newest BIOS seems to disable the QP boot button in Win XP. If you own the Intel based version then you will have to either slipstream the SATA drivers or disable SATA in the BIOS and then instal XP. Other than that downgrading to XP shouldnt be a problem.

I was under the impression that the quickplay option was it's own partition and is really just a tiny version of some linux that scans your HD's for media files.

Would i need to downgrade the BIOS if i just only need the quickplay button when the computer is off, to turn it to quckplay? ( I am just clarifyin gbecause it seems from what you said that the BIOS downgrade is only necessary to use the quickplay button while in XP)

    Thanks for your help.

That was Quickplay version 1. QP ver 2 was based on Windows PE and required 1GB of separate partition. Ofcourse just having this partition on your system wont do anything. You will need the software for it to work.

Well, let me try to explain again...If you want the Quickplay button to boot into QP (in XP) then you will have to downgrade to the older BIOS. HP changed the button characteristic in the latest Vista supported BIOS since they stopped offering the bootable version of QP. If you buy a system with Vista pre-installed pressing the quickplay button will boot into Vista and then start Quickplay from within Vista. There is no extra partition.

Where can I download QP v2.1 or v2.3??

I'm a DELL refugee and this is my first HP (a DV2000) - I'm very pleased with the machine but I couldn't run my biz apps on Vista. I successfully downgraded it from Vista to XP but am lacking DVD media playing and DVD writing.

    Will QP resolve both these?

More broadly speaking - I don't have the SWSetup directory (because of downgrade from vista). What other important software apps might I be missing?? How might I obtain a copy of this directory??

    Thank-you
