    I have a DV9500t wit the Hi-def DVD unit.

The writing capabilities of this unit is slooow for ordinary DVD's and CD's.

I would like to trade out the unit for a lightscribe dvd writer, which is much faster.

Would such a move be "plug and play", or an ordeal needing driver installs, etc?

I do notice that my computer has the software for lightscribe already installed, so is that an indication that the DVD swap would be painless?

Lightscribe software is generally integrated in most CD/DVD burning suites now. All modern computers are equipped to handle CD/DVD drives with nothing more than standard Windows drivers, so this move should be even more plug and play than most USB devices.

Why not retain the current hi-def unit and get an external writer? I did that with mine, and the 20X Liteon Lightscribe external is much faster than the notebook dvd drive (even tethered to USB).
