    Hello every one,

I read a subject about downgrading vista to XP here which is quite helpful and the bewlow link is the subject, but I think this sort of downgrade does not have a straightforward process to do it and get rid of all the frustration you will face, therefore; you always get a problem which is different from some one else.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=247697&page=3

I have followed the above link and managed to almost install winXP but not completely yet, I have managed to to install the SATA drive from a USB floppy disk just to enable me to go ahead installing the XP, but during the xp installation process it also asks for the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver which I have it and have all the necessary drivers, and this is where I have been stacked because I don't know how to instal this driver, because obviously it's not possible to use flopy disk to load this driver as it's more than a few MBs, I put it on a USB flash drive and it did not detect it, I even copied it into a blank disk and inserted it into the CD ROM, but still does not pull it and detects nothing, so I don't really know how to load this drive and the rest of the drives, because it does not give me any other options apart from F3=QUITE ENTER=CONTINUE.

If there is any solution I would appreciate your help and assistance.

    Thank you

    Hemin

i know i'm boring. but how about just staying with vista? do you need xp? if you had problems with vista, have you tried to solve them?

it's quite hard work to get xp working on your machine, just to have some age-old os that soon lacks any support. i just ask if you really know what you do.

as you can guess, i can not really give you tipps on how to do it :(

well, actually, reading trough, have you slipstreamed the drivers into the xp cd image? or installed during setup somehow?

Yup why would you want to go from Vista back to XP (unless of course your comp hardware can't handle it which doesnt seem to be the case here)

I hate windows vista and I think HP lost some respect and reputation by tighting it's hardware devices with vista's, infact if I had knwon that installing XP on this sort of machine is so hard then I would not pay anything for this kind of notebook, but I found out quite late.

There are afew people who have managed to instal XP on their machines and I will keep searching till I will bin vista.

This is what works for me>>>the sata driver for your machine:

    http://tinyurl.com/6bynhq

Download and run it,make a floppy OR cancel floppy creation. The files will be extracted to C:\Swsetup\sp37005 to use with Nlite.

You can use Nlite to integrate the drivers into a new XP install cd.Nlite will even burn the new XP cd.
Very easy really, just follow the guide below closely.

If you must use the floppy method, follow this procedure which is not to insert the floppy disk until Step 4.

    1. Insert the operating system CD, and Power On the notebook to boot
    from the CD.

    2. At the very beginning of the operating system installation, the
following prompt is displayed at the bottom of the screen:

"Press F6 if you need to install a SCSI or RAID driver...."

When the prompt is displayed, press F6.

    3. Later in the operating system installation, you are notified that
a mass storage device could not be detected. When this notification
occurs, press S (S=Specify Additional Device).

    4. When prompted, insert the diskette that was created from the SoftPaq
    file, and then press Enter.

    5. Select "Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)"
    and press Enter.

NOTE: At this point, the following prompt MAY be displayed, depending
on the version of your operating system CD. If the prompt is displayed,
press Enter to use the default Windows driver and continue, if it is
not displayed, continue with Step 6. The prompt reads as follows:

Windows already has a driver that you can use for
    "Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)".

Unless the device manufacturer prefers that you use the driver on the
floppy disk, you should use the driver in Windows.

S=use the driver on floppy ENTER=use the default Windows driver

    6. Continue with the operating system installation, as prompted.

Is there anything specific you hate in Vista?
I wasn't very keen on it intially either but after using it, XP seems kind of dumb (unfortunately need to use XP at work :().
