My computer (dv6000t, t7200, 160gb HD) is set to go to Hibernation if idle for 45min or so. Are there cons to using hibernate? I checked the web but got mixed messages. Any advice on this?

hibernation is a great option when you need the computer fully off, but don't want to wait for the computer to reboot. There are a few reasons why not to continuously hibernate:
1.) Occasionally your computer needs a 'fresh start' Memory leaks, updates and other stuff needs to be cleared out with a restart.
2.) I have found that my laptop (t60) does not get as good of battery life after being placed into hibernation. I get a better result if I shut down between uses. YMMV. -
what about system performance due to storing the hibernation file or reading it?

According to my temperature read-outs, (HD, core #1 and #2) read the same as if the computer was off.
I wonder though, what is still running in the background -
hibernation means the system completely powers off, just as if it was shut down.
it means that there will be a file on your drive with the memory contents.
this can present a security risk if you are not using full disk encryption and can lead to increased fragmentation.
battery life should not be affected by hibernation.
system performance is not otherwise impacted by hibernation. the only time it takes up are the save/restores done at hibernation and startup.
poor hardware and drivers are known to interfere with hibernation as well as suspend.
Downside of Hiberinating?
