i bought a dv3 series laptop, as usual it comes with crapware vista.

I downgraded it to windows xp without a problem. i am having lot of issues trying to install the drivers.

I loaded sp3, right after i installed windows. I downloaded the drivers from

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=405785

most of the drivers installed fine, the problem i am getting is with the graphic card driver, nvidia refuses to install, saying that cannot find hardware configuration for your specific hardware type.

for the sound i install the UAA update for sp3 which i found from http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=OS&message.id=12115 after i install the operating system finds audio on high speed blah blah, load the driver and when i restart the soundcard disappears. cant get my head around this.

after installing most of this, i am left with 4-5 unknown device entries in device manager. cant figure out what is causing this.

I would appreciate if someone can help me with this as my head is going to explode.

    Thanks

You should have posted this in the driver thread. :D

For the NVIDIA graphics driver, installation should work fine just by simply launching the setup executable and working through the wizard. You could also try installing the driver using the Update Driver wizard in the Device Manager, which is located in the System Control Panel (however, this is not a recommended solution).

As for the unknown devices, they either might be the Quick Launch Buttons or the card reader components. Please make sure that you have these installed.

Based on Intel-based dv3 specifications, the sound card being used is from IDT, not from Realtek or Conexant.
