Hello Everybody!
Recently I purchased a dv6265us laptop from HP. First days I used Vista but then decided to install WinXP. I installed Partition Magic 8.0 to format disk C, in order to run WinXP installation disk. The first problem I encountered was an error about bad partition. Then, after looking for information on this forum to solve this issue, I found out that WinXP doesn`t support SATA hard drives and I need to turn off support for SATA drives in BIOS. Then I installed XP without any problems. I found drivers for wireless, videocard, card reader etc. But there are still unknown devices in my Device Manager.
-Unknown devices:
*Audio device on high definition bus
*Ethernet controller
*Modem device on high definition bus
*SM Bus Controller
So I have two questions:
1) Where I can find missing drivers? (I checked HP site, but they haven`t any drivers for XP system, only for Vista). I know that audio card is Conexant one, and Ethernet controller probably is from Intel, but I can`t find exactly which drivers are for this system.
2) My BIOS I think still runs on disabled SATA support. Can I enable it now in BIOS?
I didn`t create recovery disks and save S... folder.
Thank you in advance.

Search the HP site for dv6000t CTO (if its an Intel) or dv6000z (if its AMD) to get the XP drivers. You can reenable native SATA support after you've installed the appropriate SATA drivers I believe.

Thank you very much!!!
I successfully installed all unknown devices.
I tried to enable SATA support in BIOS, but XP could not load after it. So now I put configuration into disabled mode. I read on this forum that one should write floppy disk with SATA drivers or paste SATA drivers into XP installation disk. I don`t have floppy disk and I already installed clean XP system with all software that I use, so these both choices aren`t for my case. -
Same laptop and same problem here
I installed Win XP with the BIOS SATA option disabled and now when I turn it ON my windows crashes at boot. I tried to install the dv6000t driver, Intel Matrix Storage Manager, but it says it is not compatible.
The device manager lists under IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers: Intel 82801 GBM/GHM Serial ATA Storage Controller, but from what I can see there, my HDD is on the Primary IDE and the DVD writer is on the second.
In this situation I loose much of the harddisk performance? -
Glad that worked for you.
As far as reenabling native SATA support, I'm afraid I'm not going to be very helpful. I haven't used XP in some time, and I'm not sure how to go about installing the necessary SATA drivers in XP, before the device is appropriately recognized. The only thing I can think of is force installing the SATA driver, rebooting, enabling native SATA in BIOS, and then praying XP gets the driver right and boots ok. This could seriously kill your system if it doesn't work, so I wouldn't really recommend trying it, but it's the only thing I can think of. Hopefully, someone with more experience on XP clean installs can help more.
Also, it's worth searching the forum for "XP clean install" to see if someone who has done this before has directions on how to do it. Either that or just leave native SATA support disabled, as I don't think it really will make any noticeable difference to you. -
Thanks for your quick reply. Eventually I will reinstall win xp with the SATA driver slipstreamed, but I'm not sure that the dv6000t sata driver, the one that is made on the floppy disk, is the right one. On the driver page for my laptop, dv6265us, there are just drivers for quickplay buttons and a bios version.

hi... i bought a dv6244us and i´d like to install xp on it... can i get the drivers of dv6000t cto?
what´s the difference between dv6000 cto and dv6000t cto? -
Your dv6244us is a sub-model of the dv6000t series. it has a unique model number(dv6xxx) since they need to differentiated from other floor models in a store. -
