    Dear Forum,
I was wondering if you could point me to the correct direction...

I'll try to cut it short. My mother's in law laptop just had a major fail, I can't find the backup dvd's (must be somewere), so the easiest thing will be doing a complete wipe of the SO and install a fresh W7, can't harm...

The drivers for the above mentioned laptop can be found here .

    I basically have two questions:

    1. The ATI graphic driver weighs about 112MB, whereas when I go to the ATI website ( here), I can see that it only weighs 1.1MB. I don't get it. Am I supposed to use the link provided by HP, which is rather old compared to latest ATI driver. How can the difference in weight be so big? Does the Catalyst Driver install itself after you execute it and it downloads stuff? Should I stick to HP link or get the ATI one?

    2. Ok, the second question is just a curiosity one...I've been desperately trying to find a "Sticky" in the HP Drivers and Software forum, for the dv6-1xxx Series -> like for the dv6-2xxx Series and other Series but I can't seem to find it. Maybe it's the same as the dv5-1xxx or dv4-1xxx but to be honest, I'd rather ask instead of mucking everything up....

As always, any hint is deeply appreciated...

Thank you all for reading me,
    Best regards & Merry Christmas!
    K3n

Here are some answers to your questions:

    1. The file being provided by the AMD website is actually a compatibility verifier; it does not include the actual driver while the one at HP does. If you want to install the latest WHQL graphics driver, use these "hidden" AMD links:

    AMD Catalyst
    Version: 11.12 (8.920 - November 9, 2011)
    Windows Vista / Windows 7 x86 (32-bit)
    Windows Vista / Windows 7 x64 (64-bit)
    Release Notes

    2. You can use most of the drivers that are located in the thread that you mentioned. There are some exceptions though:

    • Do NOT use the NVIDIA or Intel graphics drivers. Use the ones from (1).
    • Please verify the notebook's media card reader. If manufactured by JMicron, use the ones from the driver thread. If not, use the Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader driver.
    • Do NOT upgrade to the BIOS posted. Instead, flash to this one (version F.46).

    Hope that helps!
