Hey all, been browsing these forums for some time and finally decided to make an account and post :)

    I recently purchased the Dv6-6024tx, with the i7 2.0ghz, 6770m and 4gb ddr3.

I know that I can get drivers from the HP website, specifically designed for switchable graphics, but is there any other place I can get other drivers? HP seems slow in releasing new drivers compared to AMD, and I was wondering that if there is in fact other drivers I can download, whether they would offer more performance over the drivers available at the HP site?

I don't mind downloading (trusted) third party drivers, and I also don't mind whether they disable my switchable graphics. My notebook is plugged in 99% percent of the time, and I always use, regardless whether plugged in or not, the 6770m.

If there are other graphics drivers available, could you please tell me where, what the best ones currently available are, and how to install them. Thanks a lot guys!

11.8 is the current AMD driver

    here's the mobility version: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-8_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe

when you install it, be sure to do a custom install and only install the AMD display driver. don't download the new CCC that goes along with it.

as a disclaimer, i'm using it and it works fine. however, HP does not exactly endorse using anything other than what they have on their site so use it at your own risk.

So should we uninstall the old display driver first? Damn, I just got my DV7t today, and all these updates right left and center are confusing as hell (not to mention pissing me off and sucking all the fun out of my new purchase!)

There are so many damn pages in each thread. "Oh sweet, modify grapics driver, ill click on that, oh its 85 pages, oh and if I click randomly on any page there is at least one dude giving out vital installation updates (ie DONT DO XXXX UNLESS YOU DO YYYY FIRST: BUT NEVER WWW!!) that differ from the last "

My brain weeps with all this information!

SO I fianlly did it, downloaded 11.8 from AMD. Uninstalled the old following the videos on AMD site to the letter. Rebooted and quess what, Crysis has terrible stuttering even in the intro and tears on the menu screen. Im going to roll back to the original drivers that came with the machine, at least they worked!

OMG thank you very much for that link!! I installed everything but the CCC like u said and my game performance has improved quite significantly, GTA 4 went from 32-45 to 38-52 and Starcraft 2 from ~80 to ~105!!

Did you uninstall your old drivers beforehand, or just run the file? And if you did uninstall it, did you do it through win 7 controll panel, or some 3rd party like CCleaner or Revo?

I dont think u need to uninstall anything, at least I have never done it and this driver has given me 15-20% better game perfomance!! :)

but remember when ur installing this dont install the CCC, i think that did the trick for me because i tried so many drivers and i never really got any game improvement until now :p

Did you try exiting Crysis and running it again? The same thing happened to me, and I exited and started it again and there were no issues. And I believe I'm still running 11.5.

Yea, Itried that several times, no diff... Its weird, Im getting stuttering in Crysis now without having done any changes at all, still using the stock drivers. A few nights ago everything was running swimmingly on "Very High" in 1650x1080 (external mon) and the day after, it started to stutter and get bad framerates.... any clues as to why? I unchecked a bunch of HP stuff on Autostart, but I didnt think that was going to affect gameplay in any way.
