I dropped my laptop and while the computer hardware all still works, the LCD is broken. However, I do not know how to get the broken one out, let alone a new one in. Does anyone know how to replace the screen on the dv4-1430us?

    Thanks

Thanks, successfully got it out, hopefully i did no loose any of the 41 screws that i counted.

i dont know much about laptop hardware, but since i am in this situation already, can i replace the screen with a matte option? and if so, can i choose any 14.1" screen or only specific ones?

I think you can. You just need to make sure that the connector on the replacement display is the same as the old one, as there are quite a few types floating around.

are all 14.1" screens the same physical size. I assume that the viewable area is the same, but is the metal casing standard too?

I searched alternative panel for one dv6000 series by first looking up original panel part number, I found few sites that listed many laptops that were using that panel model. Then I picked couple more popular laptop models from that list (in addition to dv6000 I chose one Acer and one Fujitsu-Siemens) and searched for alternative panels for all those models.

In the end I found one really cheap used panel from Acer and it worked perfectly. I didn't search for matte screen, just anything that was cheap and working :) Method is still valid, if you want to spend few good hours googling around.

KLF, what sites gave you the various options. every site I am looking at only breaks it down by manufacturer.

Some rather not well known sites, like eBay and Google.
