I hope someone can help me with this problem.

I dropped my HP 6910p today (it was in a neoprene sleeve). Everything is fine except that now the computer is recognizing only one of my memory modules (I have two 1 GB sticks of RAM). At first it recognized the change in memory and under "Computer" it identified only 1 GB of RAM. Then I shut down and restarted and it said I had 2 GB of RAM. After another shutdown and restart, it is back to showing only 1 GB of RAM.

How do I know which memory module is affected?

    Any other advice/solutions?

    Hello Fishfood,

Try opening the computer and removing one module. If your computer starts, that module should be good. If it doesn't start (it should start beeping indefinitely) then that module is not working. Then try with the other module.

Also, since the problem might be not in the module but in the connectors in the mother board, try the above on both slots.

If this doesn't help get back to us. But I sincerely hope it does, a RAM stick is not that expensive. :)

    Best regards,

    HerrKaputt

Most likely the connection on one of the DIMM's just got loosened. Remove both of them and reseat them, and see if your problem goes away. If that doesn't work try what HerrKaputt suggested.

I think odin243 has it correct. Its likely that one of the memory modules has simply become loose, and isn't making correct electrical contect with the slot. Just reseat the RAM, and it should recognise the RAM, if this is the problem.

I removed and reset the one that is easy to access. The problem persisted. I believe that the other one is loose as per your advice and because the computer momentarily recognized both sticks for one restart. How do I access the other stick. Is it on the motherboard?

Is it easy to find/remove and reset?

If anyone knows how to do this, please advise.

    Thanks

Thats seems to be it. I am at school right now and it is recognizing both sticks at the moment. I will try to open it up later and put it back in place for good.
