    Hi all,

I have a HP DV6375 with vista premium I've been trying to get nero 8 to burn a dual layer disk with mixed results (1 good burn out of 5). I'm wondering if the drive is DL capable but haven't been able to find any doucmentation to know either way. The drive is a Samsung (TSST Corp) TS-L632M. If it isn't is there a compatible drive that will work in the notebook?

    Thanks :)

Your drive should be compatible since you have burned one good copy. I would question your blank media you are using. I had the same problem a while back until I started using Verbatim discs. Recently they started to manufacture the discs in India and supposedly the quality has dropped, but I believe these are still manufactured in Singapore.

The extra cost for these discs is well worth it! You will burn virtually no coasters!

it is dual layer capable, but only at a max of 4x

so for best results, try 2x, that sometimes works

also try a diff burning engine, for exapmple, try copying a dual layer dvd with imgBurn, freeware, but excellent for DL and let us know how it goes

slower burns almost always result in a better burn

it is not the best quality oem burner.......

and what media are you using???

I agree in that the media in DL burner is a huge factor. I too switched to Verbatim and have had good results. They are a little more expensive sometimes, but worth it.

Thanks for all the good input especialy the confirmation that the burner is DL compatible. I have been burning at a 2X speed but the media is from an office supply chain in their brand. I will try a better brand and the burning software suggested. Thanks again for all the input.

I just wanted to add to the media comments.

Verbatim has started using many different manufacturers now. In the past they were repackaged Taiyo Yuden, the best out there. But now they can be anywhere from Taiyo Yuden to CMC Magnetics (the worst). CMC Magnetics is so bad that even HP's tech support will tell you they don't support Memorex (uses CMC Magnetics to manufacture discs) and they will only tell you to get better media if you are using those discs.

If you use imgburn, it will tell you the manufacturer ID when it reads the disc. Try to stick to Taiyo Yuden or repackaged Taiyo Yuden discs.
