Hey all. I've set up my new dv6t-7000 with 32gb mSSD acceleration cache to dual boot Win7 and 8. I default to Win7 and I'm just trying out Win8, but despite all the hysteria, it seems OK and pretty much like Win7 once you get past the start screen. I haven't installed all the HP specific software in Win8 (fingerprint reader, Intel Rapid Storage = cache controller, Coolsense etc) yet and probably won't until/unless I commit to Win8 and remove the extra partition.

The problem is that if I have the cache enabled in Win7 Rapid Storage, I can't boot to Win8. At first I thought the Win8 installation was corrupted, but when I tried to reinstall, I got to the screen where you choose a drive and no drives were visible. That reminded me that when I first installed Win8 I went through the same thing--it said "We couldn't find any drives." (It took me about half an hour to realize that the cache was the issue--there was no Google result on this issue at all, so if anyone gets here wondering about this, that's your answer).

So, has anyone found a way to dual boot without disabling and re-enabling the cache every time? Would it make a difference to install Rapid Storage in Win8? I can't see how it would, but who knows. TIA for any information. I'm no expert on RAID, this is my first time using anything like it.

Also, I noticed that when I boot to Win8, the drive on which it's installed shows up as C: even though I set it as D: during partitioning in Win7 (the Win7 drive becomes D :). I assume this is normal, but will it mess up any programs that are installed to both OSs? I'm guessing I should make the decision on Win8 vs 7 sooner than later so I can start more or less fresh with whichever OS I want to use.

I solved my own problem...I was going to bite the bullet and "upgrade" to Win8, but the installation failed after 2.5 hours, grrrr. So I will be on Win7 for the duration.
