Hey guys, I was wondering what your opinion was regarding new laptops in regards to your choice of the two.......If you had a choice and money was not an issue, which would you choose? :)

I will always go with Quad, great for multi-tasking, rendering, and more and more games are coming out with Quad support... I know there will be people who argue with me that it isn't necessary right now... however it is very beneficial now and will be even more so in the future!

I read somewhere that intel will be dropping the Duo Core line....I think it was Engadget.

Probably... Intel now has their Quad line, and I7 with the new Clarksfield I7 mobiles... There will still be ALOT of Duo's in circulation, but I don't doubt there is some truth to that in the next year or so

I say it depends on what you plan on doing and what gpu you have. If you plan on gaming and have a low end gpu, not even a quad core will help you enough...

The Quad core is future proof though. GTA IV is one game that could use it.

Yea I'm pretty sure ARMA II also has Quad support... Not Quad required mind you, just a quad is beneficial there

does software have to be specifically designed for quad-core or can the OS divide the work over the cores?

You'll be able to do more multi-tasking more open programs normally, but you won't see any benefit from the program itself unless it is supported... however Almost everything that is coming out with windows 7 and such as we are seeing niow will have specific programing built in to allow it to at the very least spread the work over all 4 cores
