I've got a zd8000 that burned through an AC adapter about 4 months ago. I ordered another and it has worked fine since then. Yesterday, however, it stopped working. I'm pretty sure the adapter is fried because the green light on the actual ac adapter unit does not turn on.
I ordered two replacement AC adapters, but neither of them works (not the same model I replaced...so no green light indicator). When I plug the new adapter into the zd8000 the power light comes on, but when I turn on the comp another light to the left flashes a few times, but that is it. I took the battery out, unplugged all peripherals and power sources and pushed the power button to drain any excess charge then plugged it back in with no luck.
Online help has said to re-seat the memory which I will do when I get a screwdriver that fits the memory location (on vacation and none of the philips screwdrivers fit).
My questions:
1) does re-seating the memory modules have a high success rate?
2) If no, what's the prob? The new adapters I ordered are 135W 19v so they should be good to go...

3) What else should i do, what are my alternatives?

your computer's charging circuitry might be shot, in which case it is fixable, but extremely difficult
re-seating the memory is just a standard procedure for troubleshooting - try it, but I dont think it will do much in this case -
yeah reseating the memory didn't work. To reiterate, all i get now is the power light on the computer or whatever light comes on when the cable is plugged in (a light on the right of the "dash"...and then one of the lights on the front "dash" on the left blinks a few times when I try to turn the comp on.
Thanks very much for the reply v3loc1ty2.0. Since the laptop is 3 years old and out of warranty I'm leaning towards just buying a new one. However, I would like to get the data off the HD. Are there services, or ways I can retrieve the data? Are HD connections to laptops standard so that I could just plug it into a new laptop? -
you should just be able to plug your old drive into your new laptop and copy it that way (if you buy a 17 inch with 2 HDD bays), or you can buy an external usb enclosure for your drive
Dust off your zd8000 knowledge hats...
