I have three spots on my laptop screen where it looks as if dust has gotten between the glass (plastic) and the LCD. It's not terrible but it's very annoying. I wanted to get a 2nd opinion on whether this is dust or dead pixels. I've attached the worst example below.
Either way, is this worth returning for service? From other posts here it seems that it's very risky to send it back for something like this. There are some horror stories of the service depot not fixing the problem but sending the laptop back damaged. My biggest concern is if it isn't sealed correctly then this will continue to get worse.

Looks like dust, but since there are two within 25 mm, you can have HP do something about it. Contact HP for warranty ... it IS two dots right? That would bother me ... defintely get an exchange or repair (based on warranty/when it was purchased) ... I posted a thread that contains HP's Dead Pixel Policy.

Looks like dust/dirt to me.
A similar case like this happened before except it was hair stuck on the otherside. Yes it turned into a horror story, they replaced alot of things except the LCD screen! The guy totally marked it out as clearly as possible but the monkeys at HP seem ignore it -
Don't know if this will make you feel any better but my DV9700T just arrived this morning with the same problem. It's only one spot and looks like a big smudge. It's toward the bottom of the screen so I think I can ignore it, though.
Good luck. -
That's probably dust, and you should be able to get it repaired. And remember, for every one of those horror stories there is 100 success stories that are not posted. Mine is one of them, Dell shipped my notebook back 2 days after I sent it.

Oh trust me theres more than one horror story.
HP have different quality services compared to Dell, totally different company.
Send it in if you have the time to do so. Make sure you make extra extra clear on what needs to be done. Put a BIG arrow on it
If it doesnt really bother you, id wait till warranty nearly runs out and get it fixed. -
I thought these displays are made on very clean filtered rooms. How does dust get in between?

Thanks for the advice. The laptop is about 3 months old so I think that I'll wait a few more months before I send it in. At first there was only the one spot which looks more like a small hair, now there are three. At this rate by the end of the warranty, there will be dozens of spots! For some reason I don't think that my screen was sealed properly.
Instead of sending it in, I'm going to try to tell them that I need it for a project (truth) and ask that they send me a replacement, and I'll send this one back when I get the replacement. I've read that someone else had success doing this but we'll see what happens in my situation. -
Looks like a smudge to me. It is not a dead pixel
