    Hello.
    I need you help.
I have an HP Pavillion DV1000 Series.
    I have the DVD-RW Pioneer DVR-K14 installed.
Since this drive is such a bad drive I tried to swap it with a DVD RAM drive. The new drive work fine and all in the Pavillion but...
It is not the same for the Pioneer.
The Pioneer in another Acer laptop doesn't work![V]
The Pioneer on the Acer start up and when it is time to boot.. will not.
And it will not read anything if the system start.

Can Anyone help me to understand if HP locked the firmware of their product to let them work only with them?
    I need a test.
Can you try to swap this Pioneer DVR-K14 installed as facory in an HP and place in another NOT HP laptop?

    Than You.
    Regards

I'm having a hard time to understand what you mean with bad drive. Is it a bad bad or a good bad.

I doubt that it has something to do with the firmware on the drive.

Most likely the Bios on the Acer doesn't recognize the drive. Maybe a Bios update would help.

I think the original drive was good, but that he wanted to burn DVD-RAM discs.

Sorry to not write as clear as possible.
I mean... the drive is good. But not as good as the other that I have.
So I wanted to change it.
To do so.. I swapped it.

Anyway I don't think my Acer Travelmate 602 TER have some Bios upgrade since is 5 years old [ :(]

It work like a charm and I feel so confortable with it that I'll never sale it!
But now I bought this pavillion and I use this Acer to home server.

The thing you said about upgrading firmware can be true but... why the other one that is better (has a DVD RAM capability too) work perfectly in it?
    Thank You.
