Alright, someone was bound to ask this question, might as well be me. I had JUST bought my dv1000t, it's ok and all but I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on anything. I bought it from Costco, so I can return it and buy a similarly equipped dv2000t for about the same price. Should I return the dv1000t and get the dv2000? What bugs me about the dv1000t is that it doesn't want to wake up after it sleeps. I've had it about week and I've had to restart it by holding down the power button numerous times. Other than that, it's been ok.

What do you guys think? Is this inability to wake up something I should be concerned about?
    Thanks

Your DV1000t is obviously defective. Why don't you take it back and exchange for a new one? I wouldn't buy the dv2000 if it's way more expensive than the DV1000t (especially if you don't care about dedicated graphics), but if it's similarly priced (say plus $100), why not. It look tons better anyway.

Maybe a reformat would help it work, usually its probably a taskbar program probably stalling the system from waking up.

If you can get the DV2000T for the roughly the same price, why not? It looks a lot cooler, it has a built in remote censor, PCI Xpress, 1.3 Webcam, sports a core duo CPU, and DDR 2.......****...what am i waiting for? ......oh ya the turion X2....just waiting for the Turion to released and ill be upgrading my V2000z.

dv2000t memory options as being offered right now on HP site are a joke.
All they offer is 512 (256x2), 1024(512x2) and 2048(1024x2). I was hoping to get 1024 (1024x1) and then add one more gig later. What a joke ! For some reason they offer it for dv1000t.

I am in the same boat as the original poster. I got a dv1000t from Costco. It is a little slow waking up and all that but the problem I have with it is the liner for the lcd is actually coming out. Needless to say having it covering the bottom corner of the screen is a little distracting. So I am stuck with a decision. Do I order another 1000t or do I go for the 2000t? I figure for the $100 or so the 2000t is a pretty good choice for the reasons already stated by previous posters. However, I really do like the keyboard on the 1000t and since keyboard is one of the most important parts for me on a laptop I am hesitant to get the 2000t for fear that they have changed the feel of the keyboard. Any thoughts?

I also think the memory options are silly.I have a gig that I bought for my 1000t and would like not having to, in effect, throw away a stick of memory so I can put the 1 gig in the new laptop.

Also, since Core Duo prices are dropping as of the 28th, do you think that the price of the Core Duo laptops will drop at all or is that all figured into their price margin and prices will remain where they are?

What usually happens when the laptop cannot recover from sleep is due to a change in hardware hookup, e.g. disconnected network drive or USB device during sleep. Try to disconnect all USB/FW devices before putting it to sleep to see if that helps.

That's the same configuration I purchased with my dv1000t, 1024kx1.

I happen to really like my dv1000t, but the dv2000t is newer, and I like the new material used on the lid.

I don't have any problems with my dv1000t, except that when I put it in hibernation mode, when I wake it up, it displays a message that hp QuckPlay has quit due to an error, but if I've already booted up my dv1000t, I really don't care that QuickPlay quit, as I won't use it. I only use it if I don't want to boot up.

Question is, is it worth the hassle to return my dv1000t to Costco. This is one of the major reasons I purchased it from Costco, however! I LOVE that I have the option to exchange my dv1000t for a dv2000t for six months!

By the way, why does the new, dv2000t have a 5 in 1 card reader, while the dv1000t have a 6 in 1? Which card type is no longer supported?

I was looking into buying one of the two.... I know the dv2000t is newer, but why is it that much better ? Using the "compare by usage" button on the HP site, the 1000t seems to be better for gaming and graphics. Any reasons for the higher price? thanx.

the 1000t is not better at gaming. they both come with the integrated gma950. one of the main differences is that the dv2000t starts with the t2400 processor while the base price for the dv1000t is the core solo. that will make up $175 of the difference. also, the dv2000t comes with a webcam standard, instead of having it as an option.

This is what happens, I'll leave my laptop alone for a while then the screensaver comes on, and after that the screen goes black and the computer is sleeping. At that point if I can move my finger over the touchpad or hit the keyboard it will wake up. However, if the screen has been black for a while, I'd guesstimate like 15 minuts or so, it will not wake up and I have to restart it by holding down the power button, ctrl+alt+delete won't work.

    Does this sound defective?

I actually prefer the look of the dv1000t and how the speakers are out in front. But, I like the fact that the dv2000t has a better webcam and the "touch" buttons for quickplay and media controls. Anybody here with HP experience know the pros and cons of each machine? I like Costco's liberal return poilicy, but me without a car and being a college student, it is somewhat of a hassle, but I'll do it if if I have to (ie, the dv1000t is defective, or if the dv2000t is substantially better).

    Thanks

Well, say it is hibernating, is it not supposed to wake up?

    My .02...

I have a DV1000T, and it's great. Standby & hibernate work flawlessly...it they are not for you, there's an issue.

As for thr DV2000, this will only be more interesting when the dedicated GPU is available, as well as the Turion X2 CPUs.

My advice is buy it at Costco, enjoy the DV1000T for 5 months, and then return and get the latest DV2000, which should be even better by then.

with hibernate, you have to press the powerbutton to wake it. perhaps you are holding the powerbutton too long?

No, I would just press the power button to wake it up but nothing would happen. Sometimes I would wait 10 minutes or so, but the screen would remain black. The only thing I could do was hold down the power button until it restarted, pressing on the keys did nothing, ctrl-alt-del did nothing.

Anyways, besides that issue, something happened today with the dv1000t that I find inexcusable. As I was opening up my laptop tonight, I heard a loud "SNAP!" sound occur as I was adjusting the screen. The snap came from an unaligned plastic part on the hinge of the screen near the led light catching the plastic on the main body of the laptop right along the hinge. It's not like I was careless or opened the screen too fast either. After all, this laptop is still new to me and, as such, I'm still at that stage where I'm really babying it. Suffice to say, I am very dissapointed. This sucks. I left all of the boxes and documentation at my apartment near my university, but I'm currently at home at my parent's house for the summer. I want to return the dv1000t now already, but I don't think even Costco's liberal return poolicy would let me return it without the boxes and stuff.

    dv2000 here I come

Sorry to hear it...My DV1000T has had pretty good build quality, and I have not been babying mine.
