I'm considering getting either the Hp or Compaq version of the Dv2000t. First, Can anyone tell me why the Compaq version is so much cheaper? Of course the next question is turion or core duo. Which will run cooler? Do either make the laptop run very warm? I want my laptop to be as cool as possible so it lasts a long time.

    Thanks,

You're asking us to provide a logical reason for the actions of marketing weasels. It can't be done. Madness lies that way. Oh, and I don't think the Compaq version has the integrated webcam.
They should be about the same. Intel rates the Duo at 31W and AMD rates the TX2 at 35W, but AMD is much more conservative with their ratings than Intel is (absolute worst theoretical case vs. "typical"). Since the Turion also has the much better GeForce 6150 GPU (vs. the Intel GMA950) and is 64-bit capable I'd get that.

The Turion will run cooler, as AMD rate its power consumption at 100% load and Intel rate it at 75% or something like that.

Either one will get warm though if you load the CPU much though

its the hard disc and power supply that needs to be taken into consideration not the processor.

I don't think anyone has really posted an answer/opinion on this yet. how warm do these things get if they are not used too heavily. (well, for me, I care about the core duo; the turion's reviews are pretty underwhelming compared to the core duo, so I will go with the latter).

say, some sort of normal screensaver and/or wordprocessing running.

I want to an apple store and put my hand on the bottom of one of their macbooks. ouch. very hot. definitely not usable on a lap for a longer period of time. I need to know whether the dv2000t does ok as long as I do wordprocessing and the like. I understand that it will have to get hot if I want to play games.

The dv2000 and v3000 is similar to its predecesor in the fact that cooling and heat is not a significant issue. The CPU is located on the top left, below the keyboard. It only gets slightly warm at the worst, but since its on the keyboard, you'll hardly feel it.

The only potential problem you will have is with the HD, located on the bottom left palm rest. That area also gets slightly warm, but not super hot. It isn't uncomformtable but you will notice it.

The dv2000 and v3000 will not get anywhere near the heat produced by those Macbooks. (I actually seen and felt both in person at Compusa and Staples)
