    Hi,
I am about to purchase a HP DV2500t, but the ram is $100 more for 2GB, I am kind of want to upgrade it myself.
But, does anyone know are the ram for 2500 both located at the bottom or one under the keyboard? Is it easy to do it myself? (instruction would be greatly appreciated!)

    thanks!

You may want to check www.newegg.com for memory; they usually have decent prices.

In addition to Vespoli's suggestion, you may want to have a look at the RAM Deals. Most of the RAM on their is from reputable manufacturers, and they should work with the DV2500 fine.

Then get a 2GB stick in case you will decide to upgrade to 3GB or 4GB later.

I agree with suland. Using just one module will mean that you can keeo the other slot of the notebook open for use at a later date. It will make upgrading to more RAM much easier, as you won't have to remove any previous RAM.

yea, I think you are right, but they say 2X1GB is faster than 2GB+512MB, is it??? and might be cheaper to get 2X1GB?

Using two modules of 1 GB density, will mean they will run in dual channel. This results in the doubling of the memory bandwidth, which improves performance in very heavy memory applications. For the average user, the performance gain isn't worth it. Its much better to use either more memory, or keep a slot open for use at a later date.

I agree with Zero on this one. You won't notice a difference between if you get 1-2GB stick or 2-1GB sticks. I would say go with the 1-2GB stick because it leaves that extra slot open for you to add another 2GB stick in the future if you want it. If you go with the 2-1GB sticks then if you want to upgrade in the future you don't have any available slots for RAM and you wasted the money on the 2-1GB sticks.

I feel you on that one, but it will come in sooner than the 17th. The last two laptops I purchased came in 5 days before the estimate ship date. They give themselves a longer amount of time to build the laptop so if they take longer it still fits into the timeframe they gave you. For the most part though you always get the laptop before the estimate ship date. And another word of advice for people, never pay for the two day shipping, you'll get the laptop in 2-3 days anyways so why pay $80 more?

Also, go check the RAM Deals thread inside of Notebook and Tech Bargains, they have some good deals on 2GB sticks at the moment on Newegg.

    Thanks, Envision,
I really hope it will comes as early as 5 days before the estimate ship date, but I think most importantly, give me a perfect(or good quality if not perfect) lappy that I will have for the next few years :p

I really don't wanna to go through all this:

I have a dv2500t with 2x512MB and I want it to be 2x1GB and I unscrewed the lid on the back of the laptop which revealed 2 sticks of RAM...but I have no idea how to get them out.

    Any detailed instructions? TIA

However, I have another problem now as I upgraded the RAM, but its totally not showing even though it detected new hardware at the Windows Experience Index. My memory score is still the same (simply is not seeing the 2GB) and my graphics and gaming scores went down strangely (no hardware changes).

Are there steps I'm supposed to take after I upgrade the RAM myself?

Make sure the memory is seated properly, as it is strange that only 1 stick is detected...........

I had the same problem although I learned not to trust the WEI. As far as why not all ram shows up. Get in the bios and see how much memory it shows there.

Oops, I missed the WEI part.

Just make sure that Windows & BIOS sees the ram. The WEI score is unpredictable and largely irrelevant.......

Make sure everything is installed securely. If so, the next step is to run a memtest86+ on each module by itself. See the guide in my sig for details.
