Yes its is a Santa Rosa notebook(the T7700 is a santa rosa[socket p] processor
Since the HP dv2690 is apart of the HP dv2500 series, so look at its review here for some pros and cons. -
Thanks for the quick reply,
what is the difference between dv2690ee,dv2690en,dv2690el.
Is it to do with region? or hardware? -

Hi zubairsm. I presume you are buying this notebook in the Middle east. Could you please tell me the price and the country in which you are getting it please? I too am going to buy it and this info would be helpful for me!

Thanks guys for help, i bought the one yesterday (i hope i made the right choice),i spent half an hour with the system and i think i will format and install xp (is there any thread on this?).
@radopod... I am in Bahrain and it costs me 559 Bahraini dinars(aprx. 1500us$) from mass computers plus i got a free printer....you can even get it from saudi (jarir) or if you are in dubai, you shoudn't have any problem finding cos they all come from dubai. good luck
@n2online...I am not sure about that but i am not a gamer so i am not bother about that. Also in bahrain it is difficult to find all the latest laptops, i had hard time finding T61 and when i found the price was too high. when i saw dv2690, i couldnt believe the price for that spec. so i bought one.
Thanks again

Salaam Zubair
I will e getting from Saudi Jarir(Al Khobar or Dammam). But my choice is a bit different. I am planning to go for the dv2699. As of two weeks prior to me writing this post the cost was about SAR 5100($ 1361). It is the same specs just that this one comes in Verve finish. I still am unsure about the purchase though. Might just as well go for the dv2670 as it is only SAR 4100.
As for the XP issue, you will need to find a bootable CD with SATA Drivers. Look for a sticky topic on the top of this forum titled. It has detailed instructions. -
radopod ,Salam to you too,
well if i am not mistaken dv2699 is 2.2GHz and dv2690 is 2.4Ghz(confirm it from jarir).
Good luck. -
Salaam Zubair
Yeah I just missed it. Yes it is 2.2. But still the verve looks really cool and that is why I am buying it. dv2690 isn't verve, right?
Besides I am awfully happy with 2 GB RAM and 250 GB Hard disk on the 2699! 2.4 GHz makes a difference definitely but I think I will go with the 2699 still! -
Salaam again Zubair
I am less than 2 weeks from buying my laptop. I would like to know a few more details as to how your Notebook is performing. My main doubt are the temperatures of the various components. Could you run a small test and post your results here? I would really love that as not many people around here are from Middle East and therefore there isn't a lot of info for the same here on the forums for the dv2600 series. 2500 series laptops have had their problems. Would like to know if HP have been able to patch up things with this new improved series of theirs! -
radopod,
To be honest ,i am so busy with my work that i have spent very little time with my laptop but whatever time i spent i dont see a temperature issue. it was cool, probably this week-end i will format or dual boot with XP and install some of my software. -
Radopod, just upgraded to XP,
I hope you made up your mind.
The performance is very good, a very fast m/c(even with vista), temp is no problem(havent tested on battery though).what are the tests you want me to run?
one thing i noticed is, when the CD/DVD is running , the spining is noisy and my palm can feel the spinning motion. apart from that a great laptop,
good luck to you.
Let me know how your system turned out . -
Yes I have settled down with the dv2670. Will be getting it on Sunday evening. The dv2699 is stupidly priced at SAR 1500 more than the dv2670. I would be spending just a portion of that amount to upgrade to 2 or 3 GB of RAM and getting myself a WiFi Router. Thanks for all the help. As for the temps I don't need a lot of insight into it now as I am set to buy it. But just for your knowledge you could run a few tests to keep track of your system and maintain it accordingly.
And yes, moving to XP is downgrading not UPGRADING! lol -
oops.....hehehehe
but performance wise its an upgrade.
