    Hi

    About a month ago I bought a HP Dv2699eo.

This morning it suddenly shutsdown without a warning (It is the second time the laptop does this). I could not power it on again so I pulled out the battery and installed it again right away, then I was able to start up the machine.
The fan is not running constantly so I do not think it is a overheading problem.

Does somebody got a clue what might cause the problem?
Have anyone else experienced the same problem?

    Thanks in advance!

    Nick

did it shut off because it ran out of battery?
it also could have just gone to hibernate

Hi v3loc1ty and thank you for your response!

There were still 80% left on the battery.
I was just browsing when it happened so I do not think it went hibernating...

It could be the power supply on the laptop, since your battery has enough charge. It could also be the motherboard, there are just too many factors. Your best bet would be to contact HP, send your laptop back and the will fix it. You will be without a laptop for a week or two max, but it will be a lot faster and cause you less aggravation.

They will talk you through their own steps to determine the problem. If you still feel like the laptop needs to be repaired after you talk to them and they say it doesn't need to be ask to talk to a supervisor. This happened to me on a couple occasions where the tech person didn't think anything was wrong and wouldn't let me send it in, I had to ask for his supervisor and explain the problems and he put the order through right away. Be firm with them and if you aren't satisfied ask for a supervisor, there is ALWAYS one on duty, never let them tell you otherwise.

A few days ago I contacted HP. The technician urged me to run a battery test. But nothing wrong there (according to HP help SW).
Then we upgraded the BIOS from ver. F.13 to the newest F.21.
The machine haven't done it since...

    But I'm still a bit worried :(

    What do you guys think?

A Lenovo I got on BlackFriday shut down on me twice when it has a Sandisk Ultra II SD card inside using ReadyBoost... When I took it out, it never happened again.

Anyhow, I returned BOTH the laptop and the SD-card, got my 2500t and never look back.

Don't be worried! You just bought your laptop, and even if you didn't purchase a warranty you get a 1 year warranty automatically just for purchasing the laptop. So even if this happens again, before the year is up, you'll be covered. Also, if you haven't yet, and it there's still enough time, I would purchase a warranty. Parts for laptops are so expensive nowadays, it's a lot cheaper to buy a new laptop than to fix a broken one.

theres was actually a thread that was going around that said that some laptops that were not running the bios ver f.21 would have this same problem. If I were you I would try to find that thread cause it said that you could get a warranty extension or something like that.
