I got an hp dv4 for christmas '08 and i really love the portability of the computer, 14 inches is perfect, but its gaming capabilities are shot bc of the integrated graphics. My parents bought the laptop to surprise me, but they don't really know much about computers and thought it would be good for games. I am wondering is there any possible upgrade available that would be cheaper than getting a whole new laptop?

You'd have to replace it to get a better graphics chip. Check out something like the dv6z series with a Radeon 4650 GPU upgrade on hp.com. Check the HP Laptop Coupons link on the upper right of this page too.

Since you already have a notebook you might want to wait until free Windows 7 upgrades are offered... in July? I forget. The upgrade isn't that expensive but free is always better.

technically, you could get a new graphics by replacing the motherboard.

The best graphics would be the nvidia 105m with 512mb ddr2 memory. (i have it). It's a low end, but is 100% times better then the previous 9200m gs and a 1000% times better then the intel graphics. You will be able to game with it (just don't expect a lot from it).

You might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, but it's still probably isn't worth it.
