How do you tell which disk drive you have. Also I am having problems burning on a dvd+r cd and creating back up disks. Everytime I try to create a back up disk it tells me that I need to format the empty cd in which i inserted. This is the cd drive that I ordered:
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support

On the outside of my computer my dvd drive only says DVD+RW, so how do I find out if they gave me the correct drive.

Also what does it mean if it is DVD+/-RW? does it mean i can only burn on disks that are rw?

Search for System Information in the Start menu. Then go to Hardware and look under CD-ROM devices.

No, it means that it has the ability to burn on RW's. It will burn on regular disks as well. :)

Try inseting the CD, going to Computer, then double clicking the CDROM, and it should ask you to format, or there sould be an option to on thr top bar.

There are many different ways to get the same information:
    1. Click on Start, Enter System in Search, Click on System Information, Expand Components and select CD-Rom.
    or
    2. Access Device Manager (multiple ways of doing this)

First make sure you are following the instructions for making your backup disks using the wizard in Start, All Programs, Maintenance, Backup and Restore Center. Only insert the blank disks when instructed.

Also, make sure you are truly using DVD+R disc and not a DVD+RW. Sounds like you are trying to use a DVD+RW. Use good quality disks such as Sony, TDK, Verbatim, HP.

No, you can burn on all types of CD's or DVD's (+R, -R, RW). not sure of DVD-RAM you can look up info on the drive. Google the drive name.
