Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone has had sound issues with their DV5 and had a fix for it? I have the current bios F13 and have un-installed and reinstalled sound drivers and such. What is happening is the sound will randomly make a static boom noise and then go away and then do it again.. i have checked my external speaks and have even replaced them thinking it was them.. it is not since it is happening with my onboard speakers as well. So this static boom sound is a constant annoyance along with music sounding rather off/staticy.. any suggestions ?
Thanks!

I have never had this problem.. what version of the IDT drivers do you have installed? You can check in Device Manager. I'm quite sure we can resolve this.
-
driver date : 6/27/2008
driver version: 6.10.6017.13
they are the latest to my knowledge -
there is a newer version released. its 6.10.6087.22. here is a link to it:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41896.exe
give it a try and post back with your results.also for furture reference, refer to this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=338874
it has all the latest drivers for the dv5 updated almost regularly. -
Thanks, I woujld also like to mention that this issue happens outside of the windows enviroment, such as bios and boot.... so... I'll give these drivers ago for sure.
-
It's not a driver issue. Open your IDT control panel and under settings turn OFF the POWER MANAGEMENT options. There are 2 of them.
-
great thanks for the post, i have done that. now, I will wait to see if it still happens.. I am assuming it has happened to you? since the stright forword anwser..
-
Argh still no luck, the wierd static sound out of the speakers (external/internal) still persists.. I really starting to think it is hardware.
-
Check if the power management settings are still OFF, could be they got turned back on through a power management scheme.
Alot of people have this problem and turning the power management off fixes it for almost all I have encountered, including myself.
You can try updating the drivers for IDT and then turning the power management off, or if you updated them after you turned the settings off they will probably be re-enabled. Bottom line, check the settings and let us know lol. -
I have uninstalled the IDT drivers, updated them, turned off the power management settigns in the IDT control panel. The only recent changes i can think if that I have made since this issues started to occure I think has been bios update of F13 , Music sounds like Sh!7 on my machine since the sound keeps staticing up every 5 secs.... argh.. lol. annoying? yes!
-
huh, it seems that I am also, having USB troubles... the right side USB ports will randomly loose power. .and my mouse and keyboard will stop functioning.... any suggestion? or do you guys think HP warranty centre?
-
In addition the power management OFF, on the same tab is an option to control external amp, or something about external amp. Turn OFF also.
-
I find enabling/disabling power management has no effect. I've unchecked the power management option and set the 'time to power save state' at 999 seconds. Try this and see what happens. Otherwise I find what happens is after that timer runs out the first audio sound played will miss a split second of audio from its beginning. If another sound is produced within the time period the full audio is heard. Popping may be related to that.
-
yea, it is something wierd... i have even replaced the whole system but kept the hard drive. The issue is software regardless if it happens out side of windows.. One more try then I am doing a system recovery, this is driving me crazy...lol.
-
so long as it doesn't happen in windows there is no problem. Once the driver for the audio is loaded and you find you still have a popping issue then there is a problem.
-
I dunno if anyone else has experienced this audio issue that i have with my dv5t. So if i am listening to music, it doesn't matter if i am using WMP or iTunes, then if someone IMs me on Google Talk application. The music will actually pause for about half a second while Google Talk make the "blump" sound when someone IMs you. Then if i put my audio on mute and someone IM's me it will actually play about 1/4 of second of the IM sound even though my sound it on mute.
I have tried just about everything to get the problem fixed. I have tried two different version of the IDT audio drivers. I have also tried the standard drivers that comes with windows. I have done several system restores and done several different OSes, including Vista SP1 and Windows 7 Beta but still the same issue. I have sent in my laptop twice to get fixed. The first time they just replaced the speakers and the second time they replaced the motherboard. Still the issues hasn't gone away. I am at loss what is going on or what the problem is. Because i do the some thing on just about any other computer and this weird issue doesn't happen.
Luckily I have had this issue escalated to a Case Manager and after the 2nd repair they offered me a replacement laptop. I was able to convince them to give me the HDX 16t. But i would still like to know if anyone else has heard or had this same issue with their audio. -
Can someone else tell me if they can replicate the same issues on a dv5t with Google Talk application?
-
Yea, i have had the motherboard replaced by HP also, Same issue, not as oftain but it still occurs. wierd, My laptop model is in my sig. I thought the issue was over, but low and behold, it's back! It is really irratating.
-
it happens with me regardless of if there is sound comming out of the speakers or not, iam sure if it is happening, it will always happen regardless of the application. Could this possibly be the actual sound chip on the baord that are faulty ?
-
You said you replaced everything but the HD? You know what I'm getting at? Only only one way to find out.
-
Uninstall your sound drivers from Device Manager and restart your computer. Download the latest sound drivers from HP.COM and also perform a BIOS update. This should solve your problem. And even if it doesn't, just give HP TOTAL CARE a call, we are always there for you.
-
still issues, even after everything.... ARGH, can't even watch a movie anymore! static glitches all the time. I just had my board replaced also.
-
Also, updating bios and installing the latest driver should be the next thing. -
it does not fix this issue.. Anyone else try that DPC latency checker? I have over 9000us on average!!! wholly crap, there is something wrong there, I have even try disabling all my devices and still no change.... this is soo frusterating.
-
even with the sound disabled, i can still hear the buzzing.. out of both external and internal speakrs...
-
**Solution**
Delete the Intel Matrix Storage Driver. In the add remove programs, then run CCleaner, for Registry clean up. Restart your comp and run DPC Latency Checker. It should bring it down alot lower then it was. Mine was up at 9000US now it is below 200us. Hope this helps a bit. I know I have been soo frusterated with this issue. But, Try it and see if it works for you!
Cheers. -

I had a sound issue with my dv5t where I had popping/skipping in predictable intervals. I eventually identified the wireless driver as the culprit, which I had never updated. I downloaded the latest one from HP's website, installed it, and fixed.
-
It had stopped for a while... but I still have issues with sound on and off... but alot less after uninstalling the intel matrix storage driver.. Disabeling the wireless Intel 5100N does nothing for me
-
AWSOME!!! I ran DPC Latency Checker and sure enough, I was sitting at above 10 000us all of the time. So I uninstalled Matrix Storage Manager and it dropped to about 200us or so. Occasionally it will jump up to 700us or and I get a light pop ever couple of minutes but for the most part I'm happy. I can actually listen to music now!!

The IDT audio drivers on HP's website I think are kinda old, I updated mine from this thread, and disabled power management, and it worked. However, with the stock IDT drivers I had, power management never stuck, and always switched back on, even after hitting ok, then rechecking it, or restarting. Now they seem to stick.
