The bios has the fan set up so its always on. I'm on a dv5t with integrated graphics so i never face heat problems like those with dedicated graphics. My question is if can turn off the "fan always on" setting under the bios to get some more battery life.
Any input on whether this is "okay" or just not worth it. Will i run the risk of damaging components?

You can indeed turn it off without problems. Just keep an eye on your temps to make sure they don't go very high

Yes, go into the BIOS from what I've heard.

if the fans aren't enabled all the time, they will activate at a certain temperature i assume??? or does changing this setting mean the fan wont run.

It just means when the temperatures get to a certain point, the fans will turn on. Then when things cool down, the fans will turn off again until the notebook's internals get hot.
