My dv5t won't take a charge. The charge indicator light does not come on and the battery charge indicator graphic in windows doesn't show it is charging (plus the AC adapter isn't getting warm). My laptop is now out of charge and I have no way to use it. I think the connector at the PC end might be loose or something, but perhaps it is just the AC charge adapter.

The reason I say the conenctor at the laptop end might be loose it because I can wiggle the charging plug around in the socket quite a bit when it is plugged into the laptop power socket (the round socket at the rear of the right side). Sometimes the charge plug has weight on it when in my lap since the darn things sticks out so much, and I am wondering if I have caused the socket to malfunction internally (loose lead or something?).

Any advise on how to diagnose and/or fix it?

You say the laptop does start on the AC adapter just that it doesn't show it's charging - in that case it's common sense that the problem is not the adapter.

My guess is that your battery has died. See if it qualifies under the recall program. If it doesn't, ask HP to send you a new one anyway. They might just do it. :p

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The laptop is dead because it won't take a charge and will not run when plugged into the AC adapter. The laptop and battery are only 13 months old (I bought them new from HP). I think the jack where the charging plug goes into is loose, at least it feels loose, and that perhaps a soldered joint or something has come loose. When I plug the charger into my laptop the charge indicating lights does not come on and the "power brick" does not warm, which tells me no juice is making it to my computer.

What little I have found on this problem is that I could have it repaired for ~$130 or spend ~$130 on some sort of cable that uses a different port to charge my computer (not sure if a cable like this exists for a dv5t).

    Anyone have any advise?

Are you sure the power brick is good? The power connector on my DV5 wiggles a little as well, but it never gave me any trouble.

I do not think that the laptop can be powered from another connector.
