I think I need more ram, I just bought a game and the fps really sucks. I don't know much about laptop rams ...so how do I know it'll fit my computer.

I think the dv5t comes standard with at least 2GB-3GB RAM. That is more than enough for most modern games. What is your system config?

Hi, I have (2x2GB) 4gb OCZ 800MHz PC2 6400 ram for sale. I used to have a dv5t but I returned it, I used it for about a month. I ran it through memtest and it came out fine. So now i'm left with these extra sticks of ram i'm willing to sell. They originally cost me 94.94$ with shipping+tax. If you need it PM me.

What game are you playing ?
2GB is recommended for even Crysis.
What is the RAM usage in Task Manager when playing the game ?

Big question here, did you do a clean install of Vista or are you using it since it came out of the box? HP, along with several other manufacturers, pre-load their consumer units with extra software and processes that can and do run in the background. These can cause major drains on the system that could be why you are getting poor performance.

All the games i've played so far don't use more than 500MB RAM so u should be fine with 2 or 3GB. Maybe it's ur graphics card.

Hes got a 9600 ... I think that's pretty good. Try the suggestions above such as a clean vista install or try a new driver from laptop2go

    You aren't by chance multi-tasking?

To give you an idea, most HP consumer notebooks come out of the box running somewhere in the range of 90 to 100 processes while a clean Vista install from a retail or OEM disc only has around 40. Those extras can easily be eating resources the computer needs.

I've found the problem it had to deal more with the video card than a clean install. I did a little research and found the game itself gets low fps from even powerful cards running at high settings. Even though the graphics aren't that great, graphic cards get hit a lot by this game.

Wow...I'm not sure I saw a huge improvement when I did my clean install. I'm still hanging around 830 MB used on boot up and idle. I'm going to go to 4 GB ram (3 GB effective for 32bit OS) around this Christmas

I'm using 4gb ram, and I love it. Absolutely no problems when running Nwn2 or Cs:s on max graphics.
