    So heres my story...

When i first bought it brand new from best buy right after christmas i could run it all the time and i would notice it would get hot but i never had issues with it until january when it overheated for the first time.

Right after that i went to best buy and bought a USB fan to put underneath it and it seemed to solve the problem. It would be cool to the touch. Until once again... it overheated and kept getting worse and worse.

Now i am to the point where i have to use the fan underneath it, have a small room fan blowing on it, and rob it of performance by turning it to power saver mode which is really frusterating. I also updated the BIOS to make the internal fan run faster which seemed to help a little.

Just a note, i use CoreTemp to monitor the CPU temp with the above setup, it reads 71 degrees Celsius right now.

I just switched it to high performance and it instantly jumped up to 85 degrees and is climbing... now its 88 even with all theese fans on it. I have firefox open, windows live messenger and windows media player running. Now its 92. Im gonna unplug it and turn it to powersaver.. :( (95 degrees and dropping...)

Please any opinions or ANY advice is greatly welcomed!

I SHOULVE GOT AN INTEL PROCESSOR!

AMD is fine. the temps you are experiancing are higher than normal though. i have an AMD based dv5 as well and my temps are around 50 at most when idling. when under some load, it goes up acordingly. when your cpu is under 10% usage, what temp do you get while the notebook is running without any additional cooling on a flat surface like a desk?

Ok i put it on a wood table and let it sit until it got to below 10% then i let if sit for a few mins. On powersaver it read 70 when i got back, then i switched it to high performance and it instantly went up to 80, still under 10%

yeah there is obviously a heating issue. you should see 70-80 when under a decent amount of load. when you put your hand near/touching the vent, is it quite warm or hot? id say at this point either the fan is not spinning acordingly or the thermal compound has/is permaturly failing/failed. if this is the case, id send it in to repair.

    burkem3000,
Contact HP and have your unit serviced. I have an AMD based dv5 and only see the temps you're reporting when the cpu is under load.

    Good luck.
