Anybody know what there extremely fine lines are, they show in the bios boot screen so it is not a software fault.

I have a SEC lcd panel, they are more obvious on certain colours , blue, orange and others.

Is there anyway to minimize them.

EDIT : I have plugged in an 19" external monitor and the lines do not show.

I have plugged my dv6 into a external display and no fine vertical lines can be seen , I rang HP and they told me to return my notebook for repair.

I also have a battery wear level of 12% after less than a week, and i have calibrated the battery 3 times.

Yeah, I also noticed these lines. And I find out that it may be caused by the LG LED panel. Since some Lenovo laptop users also reported the similar problem and verified their LG screens have mura problem which is a non uniform birghtness on LED panel, and thus causes visual dark line.

I called HP too, and they also told me to ship this for repair. But I don't know if they can find those lines, and how will they solve this-_-

My panel was a SEC ,Samsung i think , dont tell my LG have the same problem :(

Hp told me to send it back for repair, as the tech said they do not do replacments , but since i have only had it a week i decided to return it to the retailer for a refund and ordered a replacement , should have it Monday.

HP said the vertical lines on the screen were an unknown problem and not a class issue?

I have had received two callback`s form HP to see if they can help, most likely wondering why i have not asked for an RMA number and returned the notebook.

I have 7 working days to send my notebook back to the retailer , I just said it was poor quality for the reason i returned it.

HP batterys dont appear to be that good 12% wear on a new battery , I had two acer notebooks before and one had 6% extra capacity and the other had 3% extra capacity than the designed for, maybe a one off HP problem.

What? The samsung's have the same problem!? I thought the problem was LG exclusive one.... may be its Korean product exclusive --||.

You said they didn't do replacements, so did you ask them to do it?

Didn't they see those lines and made some improvement or they just thought this cannot be considered as a problem?

I only have it for a few days and always with power adapter on, so I haven't noticed the battery problem yet...(Mine is a 12 cell one may be different from yours)

They said they NEVER do replacements only repairs, it could have been bull i dont know.

10/14 days for a repair or 5days for a replacement from my retailer, simple choice.

repair means i send the notebook back to them and they replace the panel, not that they can actually fix the panel.

    oh.....my mistake.

So, maybe some of the panels they used all have the same problem.

I don't think they will go for expensive Japanese panel, so they may only choose between korean and taiwan product.

I suppose i will find out Monday when i get my replacement, I tried to live with the lines for a week, but i just could not put up with it, otherwise the panel was not too bad, nice and bright i use it at the lowest setting the colour was ok, and the viewing angle was normal, and the backlight was evenly bright when viewed straight on, and no dead pixels that i could see.

Yeah, you're right. And I wonder if other HP dv6 laptop users all experienced the same problem. If not, then maybe there's still hope.

I thought i read that other people had had problems with vertical lines, but it could not find the source again, i remember somebody said the display looked like it was interlaced, but only you have answered my thread.

I have got a new dv6 quad with lg panel and I don't have any vertical lines, Can you guide me to where to look exactly to see the lines?
    It's a LP156WH2-TLA1 display.

EDIT: So I made some blue , white and yellow 1366x768 bmp files and watched them in fullscreen while changing brightness to max and min and there are definitely no lines in there, will they appear later or I'm lucky and it's fine?

It sounds like you are ok, I have had 30+ lcd screens on various notebooks and desktop screen and have never seen this problem before, and i hope i will not see it again.

The problem does not show on white or black blocks of colour, I have seen it on medium blue, orange , yellow, once you spot it i can see it in photo`s

    That's really a good news!

Mine Model is LP156WH2-TLQ1, which definitely has those lines.
They can easily be seen in a dark gray color (with brightness 50%), which can be chosen from Personalize-desktop background-solid colors(the fifth one).

But I think it actually can be seen in a lot of colors, just some are not that easily.

I wonder if the TLA1 and TLQ1 in the panel number is a firmware version , though only the manufacturer could probably flash it.

I also have a LP 156WH2-TLQ1 panel and don't have that issue. I do have a problem, or it seems, the top part is a little bit darker then the bottom.

Edit: actually, when looking really close i do see some really fine lines. But they are barely noticeable

I got a replacement DV6t and it has the same vertical line problem , the same lcd panel as the one i sent back , :(

I am trying to live with it by keeping my viewing distance at least 2 feet way from the screen

There must be more people with this problem.

I have the DV6Z now. Had it for just a little over 24 hours. Mine has lines on it, but I can only see them when I'm up real close to the screen. Any other ti00me and it's just fine. Seems more noticeable on whites than any other color.

Tinder, are you sure you don't have LED instead of LCD?
I just assume this is more of an unrefined issue with the screen tech than any thing else.

As another thought, anyone else with LED screens think you're seeing more blue than red or green? I've gone in and adjusted colors to get rid of it, but I've never had to take 85% of the blue hue out to make other colors look normal before. Course, this is my first LED monitor too.

Were the lines like that? If so, get your LCD replaced. It's broken. I had the above issue on my old WXGA+ for my old nx9420. Upgraded to WUXGA, and never looked back.

All these screens are LCD , only the backlight is LED or CCFL fluorescent tube

LED backlights can have a bluish white compared to CCFL backlights.

The fault with my screen it is like, every other vertical line of pixels is very slightly lighter, see picture below , the fault shows up best on blue.

Sorry for the picture size, but it needs to be big, it is very difficult to take a picture of the fault.

See vertical lines in the big blue bar, these do not show when i connect an external monitor.

I just found that if i turn the digital vibrance down for the default 50% to 40% or lower the lines are a lot harder to see :)

I'm having the EXACT same problem on my dv6. Good to know it just isn't my eyes. I have the ATI card in mine so I think it can be narrowed down to a problem with the LCD. Mine is also getting this weird "waviness" in the pixels in some colors, and in darker areas, it appears that the red sub-pixels are "twinkling".

Looks like I will probably just RMA the laptop with NewEgg and hope the next one doesn't have the same issue.

I may be wrong, but I think the lines are occurring on the glass and not the screen. I am having the same problem on my Dv8t. Again I may be wrong, but I believe the lines are caused by the keyboard when the case is closed. If you take a close look at your computer (from the left or right, not the front or back) with it closed, between the lid and the computer, you can see that some keys are touching the glass. In my case, cleaning the glass got rid of the lines. I really believe the cause is related to dirty keys on the keyboard. Fingerprints mainly.

I use my notebook as a desktop replacement and have only closed it 2 or 3 times and always with the black paper keyboard/screen protector that it came with, so in my instance it is not caused by that.

I think I have the same issue. Very fine lines on the display, which are especially prominent with blue. How do I confirm this?

I am using it as a desktop replacement connected to an ext 26" LCD. And sending it back is a real hassle for me. Not sure I want to go through with it. :(

Had to repair and old acer notebook with the same problem: staight vertical lines on lcd display that don't appear on external monitors.

Me and a friend of mine opened the notebook lcd display and found the chips that were malfunctioning. They usually are on top and on a side of the display panel. Unfortunately there was nothing to repair because those chips are not replaceable because they are inside a plastic wrap that goes to the lcd panel itself.

O crap, im sorry to hear that.. thats really a messed up problem man.
Especially if whats causing it is blackshard83's reason.

Im just gonna hang on and keep adjusting the color settings since there's no way I can return it to the eBay seller now,
sometimes the blue colors and orange ones act up really badly. :(
Its annoying during photoshop but c'est la vie, thats life and im happy the performance / airflow is really impressive.

    Stupid Samsung/Seiko screen.
For readers who are just tuning it, were talking about
the fine lines visible at the blue area on this picture:
