Hi,
I have a DV6-1120EF with :
- MOTHERBOARD : 518432-001 (BIOS F.46)
- CPU : Dual Core T4200
- RAM : 4Go DDR2-800
- GPU : RADEON HD4530 512 Mo
I would like to replace my CPU with a Core 2 Duo T9600 or T9800.
Could you confirm that it's possible ?
Thanks in advance,
Olivier.

Does that computer use the Intel PM45/GM45 chipset? (you can check with a program called CPU-z)
Also, why do you want to upgrade the CPU? What programs that you use do you think would benefit from this? -
Hi namaiki,
I have the PM45 chipset.
My T4200 is good enough for all I use to do except video editing.
I use SONY Vegas very often and when I have several HD tracks and effects my CPU run 100%. CPU is important for rendering too.
There are some T9800 for about 150USD now so...
Do you think it will fit my Motherboard ?

Your laptop is pretty close to mine & i'm pretty sure your good to go...
My laptop was originally DV6 -1150EI - 4530 GPU... P7450 CPU
I swapped out my 518432-001 mobo to a 518431-001 which has the 4650 GPU & put in a T9900 at the same time.
Mobo's - From the DV6 1200 parts & service manual:
For use with computer models equipped with discrete graphics subsystem memory......................... .....511864-001
For use with computer models equipped with UMA graphics subsystem memory....................................511863-001
For use with computer models equipped with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650 graphics with 1-GB memory..... 518431-001
For use with computer models equipped with ATI Mobility Radeon HD4530 graphics with 512-MB memory...518432-001
For use with computer models equipped with UMA graphics and GM47 chipset...................................... 518433-001 -
Thanks 2un@.
I was thinking to change my mainboard too. But this is a bit expensive upgrade...
About 400 USD for the MAINBOARD 518431-001 (150 USD) + CPU T9900 (250 USD)...
I see that you add 4Go RAM too and changed your HDD.
Why did you add some RAM ? 4Go is enough, I never use more than 80%.
Is there a big difference between 7200RPM HDD and 5400RPM ?
Did you keep the same CPU cooler ?
Your laptop must be a monster now, isn't it ? ;-)
Olivier. -
The ram i went to 8GB kit just because i only had 3GB to start with & just decided to go to 2x4GB kit - little noticable differance i reckon.
HDD - yes much better than 5400rpm HDD's... is the Seagate hybrid before the larger SSD's came out,the new Seagate 750GB hybrids are supposed to be better again but next for me will be 500GB SSD.
The fan assembly/GPU/CPU cooler for both boards is differant HP part number but its the same, you don't need to change it.
Yeah laptop isn't slow but no monster - the 4650 is getting quite old now & be my only reason for me to update. -
I will stay with my mainboard and just upgrade the CPU.
I don't want to reinstall my system and all softwares...
Maybe I will change my HDD, are you satisfied with your XT Hybrid ?
I am interested in the Intel Core 2 Duo E8335 (or E8135) too, but it is not listed on the compatible CPU list, why ? -
specs look same to me - maybe ask up in the Hardware section to double check.
Dunno whether you might have BIOS whitelist issues but i remember people using ES samples & having no issues.

My XT, yep i'm happy as with it but now SSD's are up to 500GB i'll go that way instead sometime. -
Thanks for answer 2un@.
The E8335 is a bit cheaper than the T9800 and he has the same perfs with a 25W TDP !
But I'm not 100% sure that it will be recognised by my Mainboard...
I don't know what to do...
Anyone tried a E8335 on a DV6 ?
Where is the Hardware section ?
Olivier.
