Hey there,
I got a dv6-6151 (i7 2630qm, 8GB, 6770m, 500GB 7.2krpm) from last year, I've got no problems at all with it, but I'd like to know if theres any software to "downgrade" his specs.
Let me explain, next week will be released Diablo 3, and as I work at mornings and got fitness training at afternoons and I'll have to play at evenings. As my gf goes to bed soon I'd like the laptop to be extremely quiet.
I'll play at lowest seetings, so the vga work won't be high at all, but I experienced at beta that the FAN was always at max or closely, I guess that was a bug, but it might not be solved on launch.
Recap, is there any way to deactivate some of the i7 cores, or at least reduce the FAN even if I have to shut pc down each hour? The only thing I want is not dying by my gf![]()
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: switching to a 5400rpm hdd won't change anything at all right?

1) You should disable Intel Turbo Boost (tutorial in Google, subject - in power manager to 99%)
2) If you really want to play on the lowest settings, you can try to switch to Intel HD graphics, but I doubt if that "card" will be enough
3) You can install HP CoolSense and enable Quietest mode.
4) The last, but I really don't recommend it, as it can fry your pc, you can switch the fan off in the BIOS settings. This way you won't hear any noise at all, except for CPU or HDD
Changing HDD to 5400rpm won't help, it would just use a little bit less power.
P.S. I'm not responsible for any possible issues! -
Another possible solution but i doubt it will help.
Use ThrottleStop to limit the CPU multiplier and MSI Afterburner to reduce the GPU clock. -
probably running on intel igpu helps, the dgpu automatically push you into 50s and start the fan.
The fan is way louder compare to the HDD when on.
the fan usually is on and tolerable around 50s, 60s is mad when it is total silent. -
Hey there again,
thanks for your replies, I've been already checking some things. Tomorrow I'll format and clean the FAN so it will go as smoothly as possible.
If disabling turbo boost besides that won't go much better I'll play with the Intel HD 3000, I've seen several videos on youtube running the beta well (~20-30fps) in low detail at 1366x768. And blizz said that final game will be better optimized than beta, so everyone would get some more fps.
Just another quest, I've got catalyst 12.4 installed but the intel hd driver comes from March 2011, is there any way to update it, withouth losing the switchable graphics and / or the cata 12.4 from last month? -
Head to Leshcatlabs and download Leshcat 12.2 UnifL UP5. Read them installation manual.
12.3 and 12.4 is pretty buggy so i don't recommend to install them.
Dv6-6151 - weird question i know
