Guys, I build computers and currently have an overclocked i7 running at 4.7 ghz on air and 1.29v. When testing temps with prime95 or a game, the cpu idles at 30c and never gets over 70 c temps. Now I know a laptop is completely different due to inadaquate little air intake holes on the bottom, but when I use my new dv6 which is at 2.0ghz (turbos to 2.6ghz) i7 2630, it idles in the 50's and prime95 or gaming is 80s to up to 95C! It has never throttled or crashed, and the fan is a hair dryer on hot. I called HP and could not get an answer from about 20 Indian guys for a simple question of is this the normal operating temperature for this laptop? If it is not, they will let me send it in for repair, but I doubt it will help. If it is normal for this model, I feel I got suckered because running at these temperatures the laptop will die right after the 1 year warranty is up. Intel specs the chip at 100C maximum, and yes I am at 95c fully loaded, but that is too close and will degrade the chip and the whole overheated laptop and all its parts. I am actually surprised that the 6770m chip is cooler than the cpu! It is usually in the 60's like normal. I can use a laptop cooler to reduce temps 3 c only, or can put it on coolest mode which makes it never go over 2.0 ghz and then it makes temperatures in the 70's, which is acceptable, but I just went from 2.7 to 2.0 ghz and have a slow laptop! I build custom desktops and am very familiar with the temperatures I want to achieve and what is normal. This is my first laptop, am I just paranoid and 95c is perfectly fine for 4 cores under realtemp or coretemp? Or is my laptop defective, or are ALL the dv6ts with i7 poorly designed, running way to hot, and will die soon? THANKS
