Howdy,
So i have the Dv6-7014nr.
i7 processor 2.3 ghz
8 gigs of ram
Nvidia Geforce 650m 2gb
1080p screen
Windows 8
I'm having issues with my running at very high temps. When i'm not gaming and browsing and such, my CPU is running at about 70-80 degrees Celsius with a load of around 13% usage on the CPU. My GPU is running at around 60 degrees Celsius.
When I start playing say Battlefield 3 my CPU spikes to a dangerous 95 degrees and my GPU is up around 85 degrees. Obviously, this is a problem. Now, my laptop has never overheated. I've never had any of the traditional symptoms of overheating such as having the laptop suddenly shut down, frozen or gotten a blue screen. Even after playing Civ 5 or Sins of a Solar Empire for several hours. My question is what can I do to help prevent such high temperatures? I don't have a cooling pad so that was the first idea that came to my mind and I'm looking at the Coolermaster Notepal U3.
I'm thinking it will help a little but i'm also wondering if I have a bigger problem such as a damaged heatsink. I do have the 3 year warranty with accidental damage protection and in home repair (i'm in college, didn't wanna take any risks) and they could probably look at it and see whats going on.
So besides buying a cooling pad, what tips to you all have for cooling a Dv6 laptop? Is there anything that you did that made a big difference?

Are you using this on your lap or is it on a flat table surface? How about the environment you're using this in, is it a warm room (above 74F) as that could contribute? I reviewed a similarly configured model and did not see temperatures this high, though they were higher than I'd like to see. It might be helpful to check out the owners lounge to see what others are saying in regards to heat and things they have done to reduce it on this model:
