wow, that's not too good then. I thought it was real metal/aluminum. I guess it is not then.

It gives me an authentication error when I try to access to image, so I can't see what specifically is wrong with your finish. However, as an owner of a DV7TQE-6100, I can vouch that it most definitely is real metal, and I don't think the finish is brushed on. Could it be a chemical reaction? It could be anodized aluminum, rather than brushed stainless. The umber color has an anodized look to it, and they feel the same.

"brushed aluminum finish" is simply aluminum under a very fine sanding belt. It's a very dull and matte finish. They spray on a coating that is the same color as the aluminum finish to make it shiny. It's very durable and should actually last the lifetime of the product. The only way the finish would fade so fast is either it was put on wrong or something acidic came in contact with it. My father owns a few auto body shops and they deal with brushed aluminum all the time. I prefer the matte finish to anything shiny.
