Hi, quick question. Can I use the Dv6t (6100 CTO) with a USB 5.1 channel headset and get true surround sound from a blu-ray movie?

That would be very dependent upon the drivers for any given headset. Best thing to do is research the different surround headsets available.

Sorry, I don't think I stated the situation properly, what I am wondering is if there is any way to get analog 5.1 out of the dv6t, the headset uses USB for power. The specific one I am looking at is this.

    Yes

All of the USB gaming headsets have onboard sound. This means that your notebook audio will be disabled and you will be then using the audio chip located on the headset itself.

This will give you the 5.1 you're looking for.

But it says that the USB is only for power, the headset runs off the sound card in the computer.

I can't find anything that specifically says that it has 5.1 audio, but I can't imagine an "entertainment" pc being released in 2011 that can't drive 5.1.

    Really??

My Corsair HS1s totally disable onboard sound. It even shows up in the device manager as being disabled.

Maybe that's just for this specific headset?

Yes, the problem is that the headset has the regular 3 analog 3.5mm jacks, but the computer only has one. If I get this, is there a good quality external USB sound card with 5.1 that I could use? The other option is to just get a simulated surround headset like the Logitech G35. What I am wondering is if either of these headsets will actually use the surround embedded in the blu-ray disk, or will they just turn it into a stereo signal and then upscale to 5.1.

Yeah, I don't think it's worth the money and hassle to do the external sound card. I'll just get the Logitech G35. Thanks for all the input.
