Hey, I've been looking at the HP dv6t QE laptop as I need one for when I go to college in August.

I customized it to come out to 900$ with the discount. The discount was added so that means it's still running right? I'm not going to run into problems with the discount?

The only issue I have with the laptop is the screen resolution. Am I going to be regretting a 1366x768 screen for basic college work and some gaming? Because other than that this laptop seems pretty beast for the price. I know I have until April 30th on the coupon, I just hope they don't run out of uses on the coupon before I go to use it.

Since I'm not going to be using the laptop until college, is this a smart buy now[considering specs and price] or would I be better off waiting until it gets closer to when I leave? I don't want to miss out on this deal now and not find anything suitable when the time comes.

This is the build by the way.

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2630QM (2.0 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
    1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    No Additional Office Software
FREE Upgrade to Norton Internet Security(TM) 2011 - 15 Month Subscription (activation required)
6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 5.5 hours of battery life +++
15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768)
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN with Wireless Display Support

    Thanks in advance.

Keeping it simple (because i'm getting one for college too.)

-No you won't regret the screen. It's no big deal. If you want a better resolution, buy an external monitor.
-If the coupon applies, it is still valid.
    - We cannot predict price trends, but why buy it now if you're not even going to turn it on until you go to college?

Not sure if I'm going to find a better deal than this. This is normally a 1200 computer which is out of my price range. I just don't want to pass on this opportunity and regret not getting it because I can't find something with the same or better specs around the same price. Plus, doesn't it take a while to build and ship?

He wants it to ship before mid-August.

There are always coupons. The best have been $400 off a $1249 or higher configuration, $500 off on $1399 (last seen in January) and 33% off (ending after today).

25%, 30% coupons are quite common. For a week in mid-March, the 6770m was free. For part of a week in early April, 8GB RAM was free. Free upgrades to 6GB RAM and 750GB HDD are pretty much an everyday thing.

Don't forget to join fatwallet.com and click through fatwallet to HP.com to place your order. 3.6% rebate on a major purchase is worth a few minutes of your time. American Express cards add a year to the warranty. American Express business cards get 5% of hp.com purchases credited against the statement balance. If you order now, you might get delayed and get another 10% off.

Myself, I'd like to spend at least half the summer with it, so that I'm not learning how to type on its keyboard when I'm struggling to get all my college work done on time.

Okay, I'm going to order since the deal is ending tonight. The reso should be fine and I think 17' would be too big to carry around campus.

Yup, excited... can't believe I came across this deal. I'm still shocked at the specs for price.. hopefully it's a good build.

I see you got the same thing just 6gigs of ram instead of 8gigs and a better cpu.

I only got 6 because it was a free upgrade, and that it's upgradeable in the future (besides the hdd), whereas the processor is not.

Ahh, very true. Do you remember off hand how much of an increase in price that cpu was?

It was +$350 (because the processor itself is ~$500), but i had a 30% coupon off my total price.
